Linthorpe road whats all that about

Good, town centres shouldn’t be full of cars. Make disabled parking for those who need it and having to walk 10 minutes to the shops won’t harm anyone else and will make the town a much nicer place to be

We must be the most car dependant nation on the planet
Nah, the US, all day long.

I think there's around a third of spaces lost? Quite often a good chunk were not getting used , those using are rarely shopping, a fair few are those who own the shops, occasionally moving them at the site of a warden

The reason the town centre and linthorpe road is failing isn’t brexit. It’s because of internet shopping. The food places, tattoo parlours and small bars do ok. Everything else is knackered. Around Forbes buildings and down to swatters carr is abit of a crap hole with no proper shopping to be done
it can be, and is, both. No matter how much the refuseniks deflect Brexit is one of the causes of this

After completion I walked from the old ABC to the Dorman Museum, plenty of scrotes using the pavement rather than the bike lane, so you still cannot educate stupid.

The car is a plague on our town centres. There are plenty of places to park in Boro without having to drive down Linthorpe Road to get one.
Too many people are too lazy. You see it in supermarket car parks where they use the parent & child spaces or just abandon it outside the store rather than park 20metres away.

Why do some people (i mean without any disability) have to have their bumper pretty much against the place they are visiting? It's really odd.

Town centres have been in decline for 20 years due to internet shopping, as one’s grown the others shrunk.
You are simplifying things. People often do. There are many factors causing the decline of the high street. Brexit is certainly one of them. How can it not be? It’s damaging the economy

Brexit has caused problems but the town centre was going well before that. Redcar and Stockton couldn’t even sustain a maccy ds 15 years ago. That is when you know your in trouble. They’re pulling have of stocktons shops down to be replaced by……a park.
People just don’t use the high street

They are part of the entitled generation. Why should they walk 20 yards? It’s pathetic really but that’s British society in a nutshell.

Primark is the only busy non-food shop in Middlesbrough town centre, and that's because it's one of the few places where you can get things cheaper and easier than the Internet.

I know it's usually the only place I really go when I travel to Middlesbrough.

Primark is starting to tip toe in Internet sales.

I don't think there's really a way of reversing the decline, especially as the older generations die off.

Food and drink can still compete, at least.

After completion, i usually go wash my **** in the sink but each to their own.

None of which are in the world top ten of cars per capita; with India being in the bottom 10.
I don’t think that’s relevant, given the top 4 are all microstates and New Zealand in fifth isn’t much bigger. India, with its gigantic population, can easily have cities wholly reliant on cars and the majority of people without cars. It’s a quirk of big and small figures when calculating “per capita”

Sorry what? India have some of the lowest car ownership levels in the world and you think this makes them car dependent?
