Saturdays matches off - Official from EFL

Mmmm.. 70 years on the throne, a lifetime of dedicated service, no retirement at 65 for HRH and people seem apoplectic with rage that the football community has seen fit to postpone one game to fully recognise such service and devotion? I think it is absolutely the appropriate thing to do and grounds all around GB ringing out with cheers tomorrow would have been completely disrespectful. I really don’t think we as football fans have been asked to sacrifice too much in return for a lifetime of service. Use Sunday morning to take your young ones to the local cenotaph to remember the Queen and others who gave so much for us.
What exactly is disrespectful about a game of football and people cheering a goal?

Yes keep sport away from clashing with the funeral. But the swathe of cancellations are way OTT.

Utter rubbish

Why then is all football of every level off it’s nothing to do with overseas tv at all. It’s the FA making a decision.
Maybe they don't want it to come across that it's about protecting our image in the eyes of other countries, so feel cancelling football at every level helps to detract from that. Who knows.

football will return next week. The football authorities felt just two days after the Queens passing was too early to have crowds celebrating and cheering. I agree, many other will have the same or different opinions. Sadly for MFC fans this falls in a day we were due to be away at Blackpool and we will face hardship as a result, I will get a full refund on travel and accommodation but understand others won’t. It is frustrating and upsetting for some but balance it against 70 years of service to the country and billions into the economy and moaning about the postponement of one game sounds very selfish and ungrateful.
Too early to be celebrating or cheering? It would be completely unrelated. It's not like people would be cheering the Queen dying or watching them match on their phone at the funeral. We aren't North Korea. This is worse, we would be laughing at North Korea being forced to observe mourning against their wishes and here we are in 2022 in a supposed democratic country having things taken away from us against our will and for what? It makes all the looking down on places like North Korea hypocritical. A 96 year old has died peacefully. It's not like a 30 year old has died suddenly in tragic circumstances. It's not disrespectful for us to carry on with our lives. There would have been appropriate celebrating/rememberance/paying respects as part of the game. No doubt the fans would have sung the anthem etc.

Nobody is forcing anyone to attend a football match if they don't feel up to it and want to mourn in their own way. Once again people are being dictated to in the way they live their life by the supreme leaders who are supposedly only symbolic. Time and again we see how symbolic they are when we are forced to do as we are told. What have we got to be grateful for that would warrant us putting our lives on hold? What is going to change if we play or not, she's already dead. We have specific days for rememberance, we have a funeral, she will be lying in state for several days. Plenty of opportunity for people that want to mourn to mourn. The rest of us can just get on with our lives, keeping the economy going and heaven forbid having something to look forward to on a weekend.

Supreme leaders? It's the football association.

Not a chance.
I would think it would amount to a seven figure number if they did wouldn’t it - a lot of very disgruntled fans about today judging by what’s happening on social media. When have the football authorities ever given a hoot about the fans anyway, it’s just another kick in the teeth for us i guess

People need to contact their transport and accommodation services. They may just refund them.

Is it too early to be sticking a camera in the face of the King whom has just lost his mother - 1000’s of them outside Buckingham palace “grieving”. Absolutely no respect shower of sheep!

Some bloke on TV said he thinks the 'large majority' of fans would want the games called off so they can mourn.

I'd say that pretty much sums up how much some people are out of touch.

I imagine every ground would have the exact attendance they would have had. Yet the mid week games may still happen.

I understand next Saturday being off for the funeral. So no Boro live on sky v Rotherham.

Well, you can’t say the majority of fans are against cancelling the games either

Social media is not indicative of larger public opinion. We see it in politics and in other areas too. The people who shout their opinions loudest are not necessarily the majority

Our accommodation have flatly refused - we were travelling by car so no loss there, but the four of us who were going have lost the best part of a hundred quid each. There are no doubt similar stories all over the country - really annoying when you look at all kinds of other events still going ahead (as they should). Why are football fans being made the fall guys
