Seems a premature departure
He never featured enough to feel the loss so replacing him wasn’t the issue replacing tav wasA couple of mistakes with Payero
1) bringing him in on his own without a buddy
2) letting him leave without a replacement in
Just noticed the wikipedia stats have not been updated and he has been playing.I see that he hasn’t yet played for Boca Juniors.
Why did he need to go? The noises from him were that he wanted to stay. A statement like 'needed to go' makes it sound as if it was for his own good (mental health) or he was causing trouble / unrest / not committed. If he thought he wasn't good enough that wouldn't be the statement to make.
Anyone shed any light.
As you’d expect I’ve been following his time back in Argentina through twitter and you tube. They have a completetly different season set-up. They still have a cup competition to play in which is long winded and he couldn't play here till January even if he returns. So unless Boca make it clear they don't want him and both sides are willing to give it a go there would be no point in him returning until at least January.
At the end of the day - he hasn't really settled here. Whether he was poor in training because of that - or he didn't settle due to a lack of game time - he doesn't sound like he wants to remain here. You can't force someone to stay. He could only come good if he wanted to try and he didn't. Pointless saying we should've kept him when he was unsettled.
Obviously they might not have been true, but when he returned from his holidays there was speculation but he said he wanted to stay, I'm sure I saw someone on twitter with him where he made a similar statement. I definitely didn't see enough of him to form an opinion of his abilities but if you rate somebody so highly and make such an effort to sign them, surely you do your best to allow them to settle.
We all know TLF took a good while to settle and he had family around him and regular game time.
I felt Wilder could have done more to make him feel loved to be fair. I remember Wilder came out towards the end of last season and said that Payero was part of his plans and had a future here, then didn't give him a single minute on the pitch for the remainder of the season - not even a 10 minute cameo off the bench, which I found odd.His head was turned when he went home for the summer & he wasn't feeling the love of Wilder, massive shame coz he had talents UK players don't excel in & was that bit of different that can elevate a team....
The potential was in him & for me we needed to persevere another season....
Attitude over abilliteh though ay!
