Ads again

Despite wide spread protest these awful pop-ups are still appearing. This will just turn people onto using ad blockers its a counter productive strategy from ftttm

Perhaps I'm in the minority but the ads really don't bother me too much. I come on here on my phone most of the time and it takes one press of a finger to get rid of the initial pop up ad (and I have clumsy fat fingers).

The other ads are easily scrolled past and ignored, fairly painless and straightforward. Probably adds an extra second onto my browsing experience and means this excellent site remains free for all.

Exactly this. This is such a common option. It doesn't need to be restricted to others.

Just allow people to pay £20 per year to remove ads and those that are happy to continue as is
Emmerson - it could brings in a lot of possible legal problems and challenges now. There are a lot of trolls and there are also a lot of people that are suspended or even booted out. I really don't want to have to take legal advice before taking an action like that. If it was to go to a paid list it would have to be small and carefully vetted. It would be a very different forum I think.

I also cannot have a dual system without losing the advertising company.

I think a lot of people are afraid to tell you what they really think here because we don't want to get banned from a forum we enjoy using...

There's 5 pages of mostly dislike for the current advert system, and replies suggesting you're unwilling to change it... So why not just delete the thread and any follow ups?

Unfortunately I would have to restrict the numbers to a very small club/clique.
Cryptic.

I'm a member of a wrestling forum that has paid and free subscriptions. Been a member for well over 10 years now and seen plenty of people with paid subscriptions banned..

many forums work this way, the idea you'd have to take legal advice before banning someone is bizarre. Terms of service.

Sunderland forum has it and seems to work for them

Are you on about Ready to Go? I've been going on there over 25 years and never had to pay and never had any issue with ads. It has 10 times the traffic our forum has mind.

You don't have to pay, that's the point, but you can pay for ads taking off and some minor extra features.

The ads on here are aggressive compared to any other forum I visit though, I've seen guns, child porn comics and all sorts. I wouldn't be comfortable posting here from a work machine! The rules say dont swear because lovely ladies lurk here nd get offended but the ads run wild 😂 funny really.

RTG is big, I guess because well ran and got in there early with well designed site and forum whereas FMTTM looked like cedar until about a year ago so playing catch up.

People have been banned without breaching the terms of service I am sure. For example, Borolad booted a couple of decent posters on a thread about the Ukraine war. I guess a paid subscription would enforce the admins to prove bannings are justified.

I just don't see the logic of having adds which cover the posts - irritates me no end. They are often the same adds that appear at the side of the page so are superfluous anyway.

I don't think that people should be forced to subscribe just to use the site. I've been haunting another non-football forum for about twenty years now and they've never had ads on there but the bloke running it was going through a bit of a hard time financially a few years ago and he introduced a voluntary and anonymous donations scheme to keep the site going and to keep it ad free. That site is still going and there aren't any annoying ads on it.

Nobody is

Nobody is suggesting that bud.

The suggestion is to leave the site as it is and then for those who don't want to have ads, to be able to make an annual payment to remove them.

I mean I look at the gazette website or the daily mail and it pretty much freezes my phone. On here no problems. If I get an ad I just backwards click and then click on the link again. I'm happy to have the bloke earn some money from it.
