A little perspective needed

Did I miss the fact that we played a wba off the park in the first half and could have been 3 up at ht ( with a strike force) and then came back at loftus road to do the same despite being 3-0 down and absolutely batter qpr but again lacked a cutting edge.

Yes it’s 1 pt from 6 but that doesn’t really tell the full story.

I agree.

The only criticism I have of the club this summer is letting tav go so early on and not having a replacement lined up. That IS OUR fault.

We should have sold him on our terms and our time.

That was a mistake.

I completely agree with this.

Boro folded far too easily allowing him to walk out the door without having the wheels in motion on a replacement and it's proving to be quite damaging.

It seems the clubs we're trying to get players from are doing exactly this to us. If Bournemouth wanted Tavernier that much, they'd have waited a few weeks until we line someone up, with assurances that he's theirs.

It's all if my aunty had balls she'd be my uncle though isn't it.

We didn't beat West Brom and we didn't beat QPR. It could have been 6 from 6 but it is 1 from 6.

At the end of the season, we might be looking back at these dropped points and saying 'that would have got us in the top 6, that'.

Snooze you lose. We haven't been effective enough in the window to give ourselves a chance. Again.

The table's lying...

I agree though, it's still very early days and we've played well in both league matches, it's just been mixed with two stinking halfs in each.
IF we bring in the right reinforcements, we could be in for a good season. Obviously a big if, but all it takes is a win to flip the mood.

It's a wait and see situation really, but a lot of people just can't manage that.
Maybe we'll struggle for points and not get the players in.
Or perhaps we'll get a couple of wins and bring in some good signings.
It's clear the current market and transfer window is unhelpful. The signings we've made look decent enough but let's up some extra quality starts drip feeding in rather than us being forced to wait until around deadline day

I agree, but at the same time wonder if Bournemouth/Tav backed us into a corner - Bournemouth ambushed us, wanted him immediately, Tav wanted to go, and Boro had a tough decision to make.
Turn down £10m, p*ss Tav off, he's unhappy so his performances dip - keep an unhappy player. Or let him go without a replacement lined up......
Looks like Wilder thought McGree could just step into Tav's role which hasn't worked, so whatever the reason behind the sale we are a bit knackered until reinforcements (at least 2 CMs come in).

The difference with Tav and the players we've been linked with is the majority of them aren't first teamers so aren't playing for their clubs. They can have them around the squad without causing an issue. If Tav had stayed and we'd started him and he had injured himself then we're stuck with an unhappy player and we're £12m short.

We could've held on to him and not played him but that wouldn't have changed the way things went on the pitch.

Agree regarding Tav, it really has taken the heart beat out of the team. We won’t get a similar replacement ready made for 12m, so we are gambling on unearthing a gem no one else has and therefore need patience. Part of me is concerned Wilder won’t make it past Gibbo’s sacking time, usually about October. He’ll probably then appoint Johnny Howson 😂

One thing I've noticed so far - in regards to stats - is the fact we are top of the xG chart.

Yes it's only 2 games, but we are never normally a high scoring team and yet we lead the way on xG in the league.

If that continues , then it's a case of sorting the defence out (which shouldn't be a problem with the personnel we have available) and the results should follow.

I don't think he did think that about McGree. He was playing as a no10 in pre-season and it was clear that he saw Tav as a key player

You do realise we are not going to win every game we play. We will lose more games.

WBA and qpr are no mugs either both will be in the mix for top 10 and up come march.

True, it's one point from six and a home loss to a lower league side in the cup.

we unperformed against xG last season as well, at both ends.

The full story is Wilder is playing with one hand tied behind his back till those five players come in who he obviously sees as coming straight into the side. That’s half a team missing at the moment.
Though he could, of course, play Uche /bring him off the bench when the WBA centre half is hammering and dominating our soft forwards, or when he needs someone to hold the ball up as he did at QPR. The guy has had 2 transfer windows to sort his forwards out.

The full story after Wilders comments that Boyd Munce and Hackney are not part of the first team this season - we have 3 midfielders. We play with 3 each game. One of which is 34 years old.
