Boro managers DO NOT chuck the cups away

No problem with the team selection tonight. we have to give opportunities to the younger players at times, and this was a perfect opportunity. Joe Gibson will be disappointed he didn't make an impact. I did think Hayden Hackney played well though.
We weren't great but we were the better team 2nd half and should have won.

Great idea. Giles or jones gets injured and we say goodbye to top 6
They might get injured in the first minute on Sunday. What do we do then? They’re footballers, they’re supposed to be playing football matches. And managers are employed to win them.

This idea that managers can get away with moaning about footballers having to play football, it blows my mind at times. How long will they continue to get away with it?

Bull. We were poor, they were just worse. You do have to give youngsters a chance, when they're ready for it and surrounded by senior pros, not other kids.

Get rid of that sports science nonsense! In my day they played 500 games a year!

So every other club in our league has done the same.

So who is right then.

It’s not the 90s anymore.

Some bizarre opinions on here.

I can see why some football managers don't value the league cup. If their club's chair/board have made it clear they're being judged on the league then of course why would they risk performance there with the cups.

But as fans why would anyone give a sh*t about that? Fixture build up? I'm a boro fan, I like it when we have matches on. Would much prefer we win and get another game.

We're not going to win the cups and most fans are judging Wilder on the league too.

If we win, great, but I'm absolutely fine not having injuries and league matches rearranged for cup matches that will ultimately lead to nothing but will potentially cost us plenty.

I think that’s the issue now as some of our fans see it more about their own night out than the progression of the club.

The two are not mutually conclusive.
So you wouldn’t have been bothered if we’d fielded an U23 side at Mansfield left season, lost the game and missed out on Old Trafford, Tottenham and Chelsea?

And presumably you never moaned about Warnock or Pulis picking weakened teams in cup games?

Tonight showed the weakness in the squad. We finished with our best 2 strikers available in Akpom and Forss.
Leeds away would have been a money spinner, TV guaranteed , 10,000 away fans, big opportunity missed.
It is what it is, the squad needs beefing up which we all know. We need 4 1st team starters ,LCH, CM , AM CF as a minimum, not including Hoppe ,and after tonight , another 4 young lads who are better than what we have to challenge for a 1st team place. Big job on for the recruitment team .
CW comments suggesting we are bringing in 5 1st team players gives me hope , the league is all that matters, Hoppe asked for the no 9 shirt ! But was told ' your not getting it ' suggests he is a back up to a real no 9. Excited by this .

Hand on heart, do you think we're going up this season?

Akpom up front? Boyd-Munce as our only backup centre mid? Bola playing CB half the time?

We have a realistic chance of getting promoted. We don’t have a realistic chance of winning the cup though

When I saw the team before the maych I thought we would struggle. In hindsight I think if Alpom and Forss played the first half we might have got a lead to hold on to. The subs killed the dynamics of the team and in the end we were very unlucky. Positives for me were Dodds and I thought Hackney did ok. Sunday is going to be tough, hoping for a win bet would probably accept a draw. Wilder needs more players.

To be fair we started 4 lads from the U23s in that game and we done exactly the same tonight.

Also add to the fact that come January you’ve had the whole summer transfer window, which we haven’t yet and still need to bring in another 4 players at least.
