Boro managers DO NOT chuck the cups away

Some bizarre opinions on here.

I can see why some football managers don't value the league cup. If their club's chair/board have made it clear they're being judged on the league then of course why would they risk performance there with the cups.

But as fans why would anyone give a sh*t about that? Fixture build up? I'm a boro fan, I like it when we have matches on. Would much prefer we win and get another game.

I have to be honest, and I apologise for swearing, but I absolutely f*cking hate it when Boro managers pick teams of kids for cup games. Blooding one or two, one or two on the bench, no problem. But leaving out the core of the first team tonight or any night is just not on for me. I hope the chairman b*llocks him for it.

I always remember McClaren saying that after he played the kids one year at Ipswich and we lost 3-0 or 3-1, and we got a good pasting, the chairman phoned him and said “we don’t do that at Boro, we’re a cup team.”

It also flies in the face of what Wilder said about the cups when he took the job. Chucking games of football away, I can’t get my head around it. We need to find fitness, form, sharpness and confidence.

He’s piled the pressure on ahead of Sunday now, and I’ve little or no sympathy TBH.

That’s not to mention the potential revenue he’s just pished away.

Did I imagine us buying a new striker today then.

No Jones no Giles no howson etc that wasn’t our main team.

So tonight’s result means nothing.
It means we’ve been knocked out of a cup to lower-league opposition. Again. How many times in the past 4 or 5 years is that now?

I can’t get my head around the idea that there are Boro supporters apparently rejoicing in this, in this defeat. It’s mad.

You shouldn’t be making excuses for it.

Thank f*ck Sir Lennie Lawrence never felt the same way as some Boro supporters do. He had the thinnest squad of them all and tried to win all FOUR competitions we were in. That’s what the Boro are about.

So you’d have played the first team and risked injury to beat Barnsley??

Don't remember Lennie picking second string teams, but we didn't have a massive squad back then. I can understand us picking weakened teams in the likes of the Anglo Italian club which no one had any interest in

Yes I’d always prefer the manager to pick the strongest team. There’s space for a youngster or two and one or two on the bench but the aim is to progress in the cups and win every game. This idea we can or should pick and choose, I’m not having it. It’s not for me and never has been.
