That is shocking - ref comments to wilder

You don't think refs need to judge the strength of a challenge? Did you see Paddy's dive in the second half that we didn't get. How do you think the ref was able to judge that it was a dive?
I don’t think should make biassed comments to a team coach off the pitch no I don’t.

As they are there to ref the game to officiate on the rules no to give comments on the fitness or strength of our players.

The point he's making is that it's not the refs job to pass judgement on the ability / talent / physical state of a player .. what if there's a player who is 5'3" and the ref doesn't give a foul for a "high boot" .. should the ref say the player should be taller? Steffen was pushed in the back .. it doesn't have to be a hard push to knock somebody off balance or put them off what they are doing .. you see many a "foul" given when there is no contact outside the box because a player had to take avoiding action .. a push in the back - no matter how slight - can be enough to cause a keeper to misjudge the flight of the ball and strength has nothing to do with it ..

I'm guessing it was in response to Wilder's complaints and asking why it wasn't given as a foul, and Steffen should have been stronger.

I don't think the referee walked in and called Steffen a fanny for the craic.
No it was to one of our coaches not to wilder which infact makes it worse.

Fair comment in my opinion, he’s explaining his decision. He’s not at Man City now where he’s going to get the benefit of the doubt for everything. We can now enjoy him getting targeted by every championship lump looking to rough him up.

Yep.blaming the ref after that absolute ***** show in the first half. Of course refs need to be able to judge the strength of a challenge. It's their job.
If the ref has made a massive error, then yes he should be saying something. It was a horror show first half, but it was exacerbated by refereeing errors. Both things are right
