Rishi caught on camera saying he'll remove funding from deprived areas

He's speaking in Tunbridge Wells apparently - I'm actually surprised for once, how can they be so brazen about it?
What an utter chunt. Rishi and truss are despicable individuals who will watch people and towns go under financially with no intervention people affected by the upcoming recession will be just cast aside. I am fairly confident labour will win the next election but I would love labour to replace starmer with someone less centrist to reverse the Tory damage

Usual Tory combination of not really getting "it", trying to play to the audience and stupidity thinking it wouldn't get leaked (he must've known it was being filmed).

Nice bit of divide and rule too "listen here, them deprived northerners, they're taking all your money (and it's all labours fault)".

Shame he won't win. That'd be labours election video done for the red wall seats. Although this whole leadership contest is like a party political broadcast for the Labour party.

How can anyone be surprised at this? The Tories implemented austerity in 2010 that deliberately removed funding from areas like Teesside. There are people on FMTTM who work for Local Authorities and I'm sure they can give a rough idea of the amount of money removed by the Tory Government.

I've said this before but I'll say it again. Anyone from Teesside and specifically from less well off areas, voting Tory in the last election is an utter disgrace.

Houchen saying he didn't mean how it's come across.

I fcuking shudder at the fact I'm thankfully only distantly related to him 😡😞

BBC News - Tory leadership: I took money out of deprived urban areas says Sunak

I'm not quite sure what else:

"We inherited a bunch of formulas from Labour that shoved all the funding into deprived urban areas and that needed to be undone.

"I started the work of undoing that."

Could possibly mean. Or how it could be taken out of context, but defending the indefensible is kind of what they do these days.

They do think we're all idiots clearly. If I was them I'd probably have just gone for the tried and tested "he misspoke" line. But they're the experts, in my job I don't have to lie on behalf of people.

Sunak: "Black is black"
Houtchen: No, he said black is white"

So he started undoing formulas inherited from Labour... that would be the last Labour govt in 2010. So didn't he inherit the formulas from his Tory predecessors as Chancellor - Javid (2019-20), Hammond (2016-2019)and Osborne(2010-2016)
Exactly what I was thinking.
Labour not been in for 12 years.
He's pandering to those who will never vote for him anyway....

I thought Sunak was less bad than Truss originally - I know better now.

Truss supporters seeming to criticise these comments......not that she'll do any different when she easily wins the Tory vote

Dates back to the ‘Fairer Funding Review’ published in early 2019. Caused uproar at the time, but still hasn’t been implemented yet.

Was actually an attempt by the May government to divert resources from urban (Labour) councils to rural (Tory) ones. Sunak was a junior local government minister at the time.

I suspect that the Tories’ new electoral coalition across the so-called red wall gave them pause for thought. Still supposed to be coming in from next year though.
