Chris Wilder Press Conference

Rob you talk there about it being a squad game.. and those coming off the bench being point earners and potentially being the difference between mid table and promotion.

My question back to him to that would have been 'if that's the case Chris.. why have we completely decimated our numbers by allowing waves of players to leave without having suitable replacements lined up, leaving us no options from the bench for those game changing moments? We've already fluffed 2 points on Saturday, how many more crucial points will be dropped between now and the club eventually bringing in replacements and bedding them in?'
Refer to the other thread where several people including myself have already addressed your question directly

I don't understand why a Press Conference would not ask the only questions the fans are really interested in.
I agree but what's he going to say realistically ? Don't we already know the answers...

We are still in negotiations...
Unable to talk about players at other clubs....
Premier League sides are reluctant to release players without replacements...
Etc Etc Etc

People are nicey nicey so they get invited back.

He hasn’t been pressed on his own words on Saturday.

Why is it the worst window? The last few Boro windows are just the same, next January and summer will be the worst ever if he sticks around.

No manager sanctions players to leave without replacements signed on lined up. No manager at all. Look at the excuses we’re hearing about why we can’t get them in - clubs doing just that. So why have we?

Really enjoyed the press conference. Chris Wilder was very upbeat joking before he had even started asking me about my t-shirt (bought in Japan, written in English with spelling mistakes).
Chris didn't really straight bat today he talked about preparing the players at his disposal for the test at QPR. He would obviously like to have more new faces in but he is realistic enough to call this the toughest window he has ever known.
I mentioned about last year at QPR being one of it not THE best performance of the season. Chris Wilder agreed but reminded us that there are two very different teams and one new manager. Yet he is still looking for that level of play.
I talked about how we will have a big away following again despite the real economic hardships. Chris Wilder pointed to the smaller numbers that some clubs attract to the Riverside and said Boro have a real advantage through our away suppprt. He appreciates this and has to be a lift for the players.
Finally I asked about fans thinking about their Boro 1 to 11. I said does the women's Euros finally underline that football is a squad game now. He said it was a good question. And talked about those players coming off the bench and/or maybe starting 8 or 9 or 10 games potentially having a points impact that makes the difference between midtable and promotion.
Am sure you will hear the whole conference soon on mfc.co.uk. It was a really interesting Q and A I thought.
Now to QPR and our first away test. Having had the luxury of a full week (no midweek games) to work without Tav and with our new players can we convert the potential shown in the first half v WBA?
Yeah but did you ask him about the 2 players that we were meant to of had in the bag 💼

As rob is usually the last to speak I assume all the important questions were asked earlier. To get the full picture it's always best to watch the mfc video - if you can stay awake til the end.

14 clubs in the Championship have made less signings than we have. Can we stop pretending we are the only club struggling to close deals.

The journalists all asked about the players we were in for, even naming one. Wilder answered fully. He wasn't annoyed at all. No questions ducked. No straight batting. Would he like more players in. Yes. Is he frustrated. No. He is realistc about how difficult a process it is.
But I wanted to let you all know he was very focussed but also really not tetchy at all. Making jokes, smiling but business like. You will enjoy the conference there are some really interesting answers to the journalists.

Did anyone ask him about the 2 players he said he thought was all but done on Saturday. If not , it’s a disgrace really

Wilder wasn't upset. He wasn't annoyed. He did not seem frustrated. He wants the players but appreciates it is hard. Hard for everyone.
It is not ideal. But just about every team is in the same boat. He expects it will be busy towards the end of the window.

Starting squads though. We had a small squad, that’s lost another 9/10 since last season. We have 3 first team midfielders in our entire squad. If it was a level playing field we would have the 20-25 man squad these other sides do. We don’t. Wilder won’t of sanctioned this way of doing things - we could of kept Tav, Spence, Coulson, Wood etc etc till we had bodies in - like we keep getting told other teams are doing. Why are we any different???

I wouldnt say we fluffed too points on Saturday, WB are a good champo team with a good squad, which was evident in there subs.

Game of 2 halfs, we had the first and had Watmore scored we would of one the game, they had the second half and but for Steffens saves or Lumley in goal, they would of won the game, all in all good point and deserved by both sides we where running on empty come the end of the game.

Players leaving is a club decision not manager sometimes its taken out of his hands.

As for the squad all of whom where released or returned to the parent club did and rightfully where released.

As we know there are a lot of things nowadays which need to be ironed out in transfers and am sure Wilder is as frustrated as us at lack of squad signings but this is the market where inn, we have to be patient.

Sure we could go sign anyone and blow the money or be held to ransom because people no we have money available or we can bide our time and the players we want will come, whether that is tge last day of the window so be it, I say enough on Friday and from all the other champo games to suggest we can compete against anyone and we will only get stronger if and when signings happen!

Let's hope this squad can find the goals then until they get things done, not so sure myself

That is just something we have to hope happens, Akpom, Coburn, Forss, Watmore and Uche, all have a goal in them as do many of the others in the squad, it doesnt really mattter who scores the goals aslong as we win the game, its a team game.

I got the impression those 2 signings were a lot more advanced than 'we've made bids'.

Wilder on Saturday evening made out they were virtually a done deal and he said both nearly made the squad for WBA.

If they were only at the 'bidding' stage, then they were nowhere near being close to the squad.

Either Wilder was lying last Saturday, or something has gone amiss.

I'll be disappointed if no journalist/reporter asked him about it.

It's the elephant in the room.

I don’t see why he would lie. Maybe things just changed l.
