CW spoke at the Q&A evening

Basically saying, as long as the clubs ambition matches his own he's more than happy to stay at the Boro, while also taking into account the specualiton regarding Burnley wanting CW as their next manager

Well following the sale of Spence & potentially Tav's transfer, you would have thought would test CW in thinking, does this club actually match my ambition

I would think yes, all part of the plan, maybe I'm naive, at the Q&A evening after he signed mine & my grandaughters match ticket I spoke to him, shook his hand & wished him all the best next season, he was happy enough, his body language showed no signs of wanting to be away & for me, is excited at what he can acheive here

If he's honest with himself & see's the club selling players above his head then he'll walk out on the club & lets be honest, his CV is very good & will have enough clubs wanting to hire him

Gibbo & CW will have spoke at lengths about the outgoings & the players who will come in to our club, maybe he was talking about Spence, Tav & others after the Preston game, we'll never know, maybe he see's a couple of players who he thinks will do the job of Tav & still have money in the bank to recruit other positions

It gets posted on here often enough & other forums TBH 'In Chris Wilder we trust', well lets look at it that way

Buying players should have nothing to do with gibbo bar the finances.
Gibbo will have been involved, he is the one who agrees what money is available to spend

I wasnt implying that Gibbo decide what players are coming or going, maybe I've worded it wrong, I was regarding the future he wants to see CW take the club

I agree with you Erimus but the timing is lousy, and it might lead to us playing catch up for several months rather than be one of the pace setters, I had no problems with him going but not in this way.

Christopher Wilder said its going to be "one in - one out" because other clubs are waiting for replacements before they sell.
Unfortunately Boro cant always get what they want when we want it.
Asked about Tav on Tees, he said "I am Tav`s biggest fan" - but it appeared from social media that the wheels were already in motion for Tav to move on.
Tav has been a great servant to the club and deserves his opportunity in the prem.
Just look at how Spurs stretched out the Spence deal - and that has tied our hands , so lets not accuse Chris Wilder of "lousy" timing.

Its time for Wilder to realise that MFC does not exist for the sole purpose of furthering his own career. If he doesn't like it here then there will be a massive queue to take his place. Sick of this line he takes. Which club that would employ him does match 'his' ambition. ?

Not long ago he was unemployed for a long time.
MFC is bigger than any manager. Be happy to serve Chris , Do your best and enjoy the rewards that may come your way this season,

Whilst the squad will be weaker until he's replaced I'd rather him go now than with hours of the window left.

It does however beg the question of whether he was always going to leave this summer and we were just waiting for an appropriate offer or if this Bournemouth deal is out of left field and has simply matched the club's valuation.

I don’t think he’d be too gutted about how things have panned out. Spence was always leaving and wouldn’t have been in the starting 11 either. Tav has been integral, but we’ve already got a ready made replacement and another young player with potential in the same position.

End of the day I can’t think of any other championship clubs who will have brought in £25-32m to secure the future of the club and reinvest in a more balanced squad.

Good question. I’d defer to the latter.

I find this a bizarre take, I'm not sure what you want him to say? Surely for us to be successful then a bit of give and take is required. We need to match his ambitions, and he has to deliver - same as with any manager.

To me, matching ambitions means having a certain level of investment (in transfers, and in time/effort/infrastructure) and having the same end in mind. He knows he's not at a huge club where we can turn down offers for players, and players will want to stay with us because we're Middlesbrough. He knows we have to balance our books and cut our cloth to an extent. He's said as much (he even said it about Tav).

Just because we've sold a key player doesn't change anything in that respect. The plan now will be to take the money, spend it wisely on a replacement and some new signings, who will hopefully do great and we can sell them for more in the future. That's our model now, this is the plan. The question is how successful can we do it.

The timing is rubbish in this instance, but as someone said, better 3 days before the season starts than 3 days before the window closes.

Very emotive Roofie , saying I am laying all the criticism at CW's door, I am not doing that because I know there is other components to this move, but the timing is lousy and you can spin that however you want

Tav is the only real player he's lost who he would want to keep. I'm pretty sure he actively sanctioned all the others.

It's clear he didn't rate Payero / Hall / Uche / Lumley / Coulson and probably Akpom. He's a manger who's been around the block and knows when a prem club comes you can't do much about it.

I imagine he's gutted at the timing. Also more so the fact we've failed to land any of our CF targets. Yet he's still had better backing than many champo managers. Steffen / Linerhan and Giles will be on a few quid.

This is a guy who got a sheff UTD side promoted on a squad that cost less than Britt (Britt cost more than his matchday squad when they beat us 1-0 at the lane). He's lost key players before. He's never been at a club that can turn down big bids

I've seen a few twitter posts saying 'he may walk'. Absolute drivel. We still have 5 weeks of the window. Judge the squad then.

That said don't get me wrong... He probably will if on the 1st of sep we have 14 outfield players 😂

I dont mind him talking about being ambitious, it sort of proves Gibbo was right to bring him in

The transfer of Tav, along with the money from both players will test CW's credentials, as rightly pointed out it is lousy timing, but, by the time the window closes & players brought in we could be a totaly different team that finished v Preston & so much stronger everywhere

He has confidence in his ability & as fans we have to trust him here 👌🙏

completely agree its as if we should be grateful hes adorning the club with his presence, a very strange thing to say in front of supporters

Boro have taken steps to improve their off field structures and become a more professional set up, and let's be honest bringing in Kieran Scott as Director of Football was a key part of that strategy.

The new transfer strategy is all about identifying younger up and coming players who you can potentially buy for a low fee and develop with an eye to growing the club or selling on for an inflated fee.

In other words less short term thinking and more longer term planning. If we're getting this right off the pitch we should already have a list of potential targets who we are ready to go for in the event of us losing any of our key assets, be that a Premier League club swooping for our midfielder a few days before the start of the season or your key left back doing his cruciate in training and being out for a year. I'm confident we will have relevant replacement targets already identified it's just getting those targets over the line that might take time.

On Tav, disappointed to lose him, we will miss his energy and work rate but he's not irreplaceable. I felt next season was going to be a key one in his development as an attacking force as that's undoubtedly his weakest area and I was waiting to see if he kicked on or if he was always going to be just a grafter. I'll have to watch from a bit further away now and less game time may hinder his development, but equally playing with and against better players might help his development. Time will tell.

Anyway, regarding Boro, I'm sure we have some potential replacements we are already working hard on acquiring.

I’m more worried about about how short we are up front, losing Tavernier, yes it weakens the squad, but I still think we can field a decent midfield on Saturday, and then strengthen. They will have a plan in place, and players lined up to come in, just hopefully sooner, rather than later.

Morning Exeter.

This post wasnt directed at anybody in particular - certainly not you. I thought it appropriate to make a few pertinent points from what Chris Wilder had pointed out.

If we look at what the conclusion of the Spence deal has meant - it is clear now, we were waiting for that deal to be done, before we could conclude any bids - because we needed the money. Now we have it, it is clear the club are going full-steam ahead to get their targets in. We`re not in a position to risk spending money we havent got.

The Tav scenario - as has been pointed out elsewhere - is not about timing [although it is clearly inconvenient], but about the logistics. Clearly, much work has to take place regards finalising a a sale : existing contracts have to be honoured before the sale is agreed and obviously involves a deal which is satisfactory to both parties. We have become "tough negotiators" [Chris Wilder], so deals will be done on our terms - which takes time. We cant demand teams put in bids for our players to suit our needs. Other clubs too have their priorities - see the Forss scenario.

For us fans, it would have been ideal if everything we wanted had been signed, sealed and delivered before the Portugal trip. But, as we all know - we live not in an ideal world and football is far from that. I hope Tav achieves whatever he wants during his career. As a club, we have to be grateful that he has been with us for so long and been a crucial player over the years. He is a young man and obviously will improve further in the top flight.
