It depends on what you value in a striker, but certainly Gestede was a worse deal. But over the course of a season he’d score more than Akpom. That’s purely what I’m judging him on.

In terms of goals scored, potential, goal threat and general impact on a game, he’s by far the worst I’ve seen. Gestede at least offered a focal point up front, Akpom offers absolutely nothing and never has. On top of his non-scoring season with Hull, he was also voted one of Brighton’s worst ever XI.

I was livid when we signed him, even more livid when Warnock claimed he was his number one target.

100%. Remember, I’ve seen him for two clubs where he’s been comfortably the worst player at both.

Miller scored goals in Scotland, Killen has a fairly decent record in truth, Lee Dong Gook has scored goals elsewhere, Aaron Connolly probably offers more than Akpom given time, Alex Nimely might be the closest comparison to be fair, Jason Euell was alright for other teams.

Akpom hasn’t scored goals anywhere!

We signed him off the back of apparently impressing over two seasons in Greece… he scored 14. That’s 7 a season.

Last season on loan in Greece he scored… 7.

He’s dreadful, utterly dreadful. Robbing a living off his Arsenal youth.

Are we ranking strikers on how many goals they score per minute? - If so, Chuba Akpom is worse than Jason Euell, Lee Miller and Chris Killen.

That’s how you have to rank it, or overall contribution to the team. If he’s not scoring does he work hard for the team? No… games often just happened to him. Is he assisting? No. Is he stretching the defence and creating space for others? No…

He doesn’t offer anything.

Stats from the Premier League, Championship and League 1 show...

1. Alex Nimely - 1 goal/assist every 319 minutes.
2. Chris Killen - 1 goal/assist every 323 minutes.
3. Jason Euell - 1 goal/assist every 334 minutes (most premier league).
4. Lee Miller - 1 goal/assist every 334 minutes.
5. Aaron Connolly - 1 goal/assist every 341 minutes.
6. Chuba Akpom - 1 goal/assist every 397 minutes.
7. Lee Dong Gook - Never scored a league goal, although he only played 828 mins in the PL.
 
Off the top of my head - definitely Warnock's worst signing - shame we didn't get him on loan originally as we seem to do with most of our strikers. At least then we wouldn't still be lumbered with him. Can see him either being released on a free or on loan again with us covering a large proportion of his wages.

I think he will feature tonight, but only because Watmore won't be playing 90 minutes and CW has openly said he doesn't want to put too much pressure on Coburn.

Gestede has a goal/assist every 144 minutes throughout over 10,000 minutes of premier league and championship football. Insane stats, probably up there with the best we've ever had from any striker in 5+ years.

The only problem with him was his wages.

If we are playing the AT MIDDLESBROUGH game then, do Dong Gook Lee, Lee Miller, Peter Davenport, Jason Euell, Andy Campbell.

Or are we flip flopping between record for Middlesbrough and across their career to suit your argument still?
