Big problems at some airports

What I find odd on this thread is the shear amount of people who are flying. With the climate emergency and the cost of living crisis plus there are lots of beautiful places people can visit in the UK.

Well that’s aslo an argument used a lot but I’ve just had 4 days in Budapest followed by 4 days in Barcelona which is where I currently am still . Pretty wall to wall sunshine, not worried about needed jeans or a long sleeve top because it’s cold, saw some amazing sights, ate amazing food, swam in the sea, relaxEd by the pool, spoke to lots of nationalities whilst here . sorry the uk is for a short break not a holiday in my view. the weather is too unpredictable and it’s almost always rammed wherever you go…… but jeez it was a pain to get to Budapest I’ll admit that !

I saw an article which explained it was cheaper to fly to Milan, get a train to lake Garda, and have lunch there, then it is to have a dinner in London and get a taxi there

Doesn’t surprise me. I bumped into a couple in Tesco last week and they said their son and daughter in law had flew to faro for £18 each return with hand luggage . Crazy . Budapest was certainly good value . Barcelona of course is a major European city but I think the prices are much lower than in the U.K. certainly London . Also hopped on a train to sitges today . Think it was 11 euro return and I was out of the city and on a beach in about 45 mins . The U.K trains can’t match that in general

I've managed to secure fast track for MCR flight next Wednesday. Hopefully that (plus an earlier arrival at the airport) should be sufficient.

Can't help but think demand must be higher this week due to half term etc.

Ive just looked at that for next Wednesday but it is only available for Terminal 1 for some reason.
 
Arrived into Amsterdam tonight from teesside. Delayed due to ‘weather’ but was a smooth transition to landside in AMS. Expecting a nightmare catching 11:20 flight tomorrow.

The price of fuel to drive or train tickets plus the cost of acomodation and activities in the UK makes staying in the UK way more expensive than traveling abroad

Worth keeping an eye on though, I looked a couple of weeks back and none of the terminals were available.

Apparently Mcr is an hour this morning for security, I'm hoping that will have come down next week with the kids back.

This is a sound point - I do a lot of travelling for work so unlikely to completely cut out in future but I am looking more into trains for European breaks. Yes it takes longer but can generally split up journeys with nights in different cities etc.

Whilst I agree there are many beautiful places in the UK the absolute state of the place at the moment unfortunately means I like to be somewhere (anywhere?) else as much as possible!

With respect, I disagree. This is simply staff leaving riskier jobs during the pandemic to find other, less riskier work. I'm being specific to airlines here, not airports or the roles you mentioned, which I DO agree with that brexit has played a part.
 
We flew from LBA to Barcelona 3 weeks ago with Jet2 and had no issues whatsoever. Looking at everything going on at LBA these past few days/weeks, we seem to have got lucky!

Flying out from Newcastle on Friday, hoping we don't run into any issues. Not heard of any so far from Newcastle, so everything crossed.

Newcastle fast track was fine earlier this week, straight through.

No idea of other airports though, Manchester seems to be the worst.
 
Jonny, presumably the normal queue wasnt taking 2 hours when you were there then ?

(It was what I experienced)

Once you actually get into Paris/Amsterdam etc trains are fantastic and much cheaper than flying to get around. Its usually the cost of the trains from the UK which make it unviable
