Boro should publicly value Spence

Can't see that helping the situation whatsoever.

Spence will be away in Czechia and Kosovo in the next 10 days with England U21s, which might disrupt negotiations.

Surely his agents(s) can handle everything that is on offer and keep him in the loop electronically?

He only needs to be there in person to do a medical and sign his contract with his new club.

Either that or he goes on holiday for 10 days so it’s his agent who will step up to kick start the negotiations.

No need for Boro to say anything now. Forest will top the bid allegedly currently on the table. Everyone knows that Boro will sell to the highest bidder, whatever that bid turns out to be. I can see Forest being willing to go up to 15 or so mil. If someone else will top that, happy days. If not, anywhere between 12 and 15 with a sell on clause would be great business for a player who cost us nothing and 12 months ago looked as though his progress had stalled and he'd end up going for nothing at the end of his contract.

Couldn't agree more with OP,
Why doesn't anyone who signs any of our players end up paying over the odds , yet the moment we go in for a player his transfer fee and wage demands suddenly go up 50%.
Tell Arsenal ,Spurs, Bayern , Forest and whoever else start the bidding at £15million plus add ons . And if they don't want to pay he stays and sulks in the reserves for us end off

Why would any club do this? We demand £20m and all clubs interested refuse to pay. What do we do then? Keep an unhappy player? Lower the price? I don't understand the point at all TBH.
Plenty of clubs do it. We will end up taking something like £10m - £12m.

Plus it will stop a lot of time wasting when we clearly need the money so can get our business done early.

If you're going to play hardball, you need to be being serious and actually being willing to back it up. If we decide to keep hold of him and tell the other sides to shove it if they don't meet out valuation, then we'll need to sell one of Fry, Tav, McNair, etc to raise funds and then need to keep hold of a player who a) doesn't want to be here and b) we don't want. It would simply be empty words, if a bid above £10 mil comes in and no-one else is interested we're going to snap their hands off, whatever anyone says.

Forest will want to sign him and they'll push up the price anyway. If we get £15mil+, great, if we get between £12-£15 it's good business, if we get around £10 then it's disappointing, but better than needing to let a player go who is actually going to contribute next season. We aren't in a position to dictate terms here unless the interest from all the clubs is genuine, and if two or three of Spurs, Bayern, Arsenal, etc are interested, then we're not going to need to go out and say anything, the price will go up naturally. Everyone knows we're going to sell to the highest bidder and anything above £12 mil is a bonus for us really.

Well we will tell them what we want and what others have offered. Just not publicly

Didn't think he played well today, if by some miracle we end up getting £20M for him, then happy days, good luck to him, and it's a fantastic deal for us. To be honest, anything North of £10M is fantastic for us.

I agree, his form dipped towards the end of the season and he did nothing today in a match which Forest won due to suspect refereeing and VAR.

Over £10m would be very good, be interesting to see what Cooper really thinks of him now he has the chance to buy him.

He comes back to Rockcliffe and trains at the Boro at the end of June. His loan has now finished with Forest.

If other teams want him they make a bid.

There has to be some sort of review back at Boro HQ
How could we let the 'best' player in the league go to a rival. Shocker from us really
