Private Hearing Aids

Any one gone this route.?
Cant be done with the farce that nhs audiology has become, my budget should not be an issue .
Any recomendations or advice?

Not used them for audiology but get in touch with woodlands hospital at Morton park Darlington. They have been brilliant in the past for a couple of my family members.

I went through Boots Hearing Care in the Middlesbrough branch initially, then switched to Wellington Square branch later. I bought a set of Phonak digital hearing aids and have never looked back. They were around £2k at the time but are brilliant, so much better than NHS one's I had previously been wearing. Different settings for different situations, I have standard, music and restaurant settings on mine, all easilly switchable on the aids themselves. The restaurant setting is very very good, cuts out ambient noise and chat from other tables and allows you to hear what is happening around yours. Mine have a lifetime service and repair guarantee plus an annual hearing review, plus I can call boots for an appointment if I feel any adjustments are needed, all free.

Pretty sure you cant get the batteries on the NHS but I get around six months supply at a time online fir about £17.00.

The aids auto adjust as you move from noisy to quieter places which is really useful for me. The next level above the ones I bought have bluetooth so you can connect a mobile and make and take calls which is what I will be going for after my next review.

DM me for a natter if that helps Osboro.

Cheers Priv / Ena , I’ve had gradual loss and nhs aids over the last 30+ year.
had to move away fo a year and now j cook treat me as a new patient and I’m on a waiting list to be assessed ffs.
it not audiologys fault but I’ll have to do what the govt cuts are forcing us to do and go private

For me it was a case of wanting more functionality than the NHS ones can provide. I shoot a lot of gigs and so the music setting is great for me.

You can get a no obligation free consultation with Boots too, but sure there will be other providers too, I think specsavers also do them.

Look at the funny men laughing at a disability,
Baron & Norbert do you laugh at any other disabilities.? I’m sure your both pleased with yourselves .
You can’t begin to appreciate the impact on your life that deafness brings hope you never have to personally.
I laugh at myself as I also suffer it. And making a joke about something doesn't mean I am being mean about the disability itself. Learning to laugh and make jokes despite everything we go through is what makes life easier.

Chill out dude.

**** right off, I’ve had 30 year of jokes about my deafness you ****, if you had made that “ joke“ to my face ( I assure you) I would have taken your head. off and shat down your throat.
Had you simply apologised for being a d*ck, , however, I’d have accepted it but you’ve proven yourselve the dog most people will judge you as.
Wind your neck in and keep your threats to yourself. I said I also suffer with deafness, so I choose to make light of a condition I have had for a fair while too, you choose to get uptight about it on an internet forum.

I'm sorry you took offence at what was at worst, a 50 year old Dad joke. But, calling me a ***, d*ck and a dog doesn't really paint you in a better light either. Maybe step away from the keyboard for the evening.

Bit strong that like, no need

I am currently being measured up for hearing aids so thanks for the info above as have to choose next week which to go for.
Osboro I think you are being a bit OTT. That's the type of bad joke you get in pubs everyday but it is nothing more than that a bad joke. We have probably all used them at times and I am sure B.S didn't mean to cause you pain. If you think I am wrong I apologise it's not my intention to offend you.

I went down the Boots root about 14 years ago. On my third set - they are amazing. I can wirelessly blue tooth the tv and my in car phone through my mobile, to receive a call I just tap either hearing aid. Google Maps gives me directions straight to my hearing aids. Expensive - £2k+ - but worth every penny.
Gone are the days being sat in the pub isolated by the noise.

Over the top Osboro. This is where this site lets itself down.rob should be giving you a warning for that, but don’t imagine he will. Chill out

Which ones did you go for.

I am going deaf but by bit and need to get it sorted. Good advice on here. 2k seems a bit steep though
