Billy Sharp attacked

Man, 31, arrested after footballer allegedly assaulted after Nottingham Forest semi-final

Man held by police on suspicion of assault after Sheffield United's Billy Sharp was left 'shocked and bleeding' as thousands of fans poured onto the pitch at Nottingham Forest's City Ground

"Police have arrested a man after Sheffield United footballer Billy Sharp was apparently assaulted on the pitch at the end of last night’s Championship play-off semi-final against Nottingham Forest.

Nottinghamshire Police launched an investigation following the incident at the City Ground which saw the player knocked to the ground as thousands of fans poured onto the pitch to celebrate Forest's dramatic penalty shoot-out triumph. Sharp's manager, Paul Heckingbottom, later reported that the player was "shook up and bleeding".

Chief Inspector Paul Hennessy, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with this incident. He remains in custody and will be questioned by officers."

Just seen it now

If you look at his run up that was really nasty could easily have broke his jaw there as he running into a stationary person caught off guard.

Good.
They are embarrassing anyways. Pitch invasions and flares for reaching a playoff final where you could end up getting beat?
Agree. Anyone invading a pitch really needs to question their own behaviour. I know the majority do it with no malice, but what is the point? Can you not just enjoy the moment from where you watched the game? I can't remember the fans piling on the pitch after the UEFA Cup Semi-Final win at the Riverside.

Totally agree. Can not stand pitch invasions. Embarrassing

Exactly. There is real intent to cause harm. The idiot has a good run up and is clearly aiming for Shape, who isn't even looking. The point of impact happens just as Sharp turns his head. There would have been real force in that. The idiot should be charged with GBH with intent.

Utter pond life....to do that as a grown man, celebrating his teams achievements and to an ex-player!!! Just been reading that Sharp needed stitches for his injury. Said to the hubby when watching last night (didn't see the incident then) that someone's going to end up hurt.

Also how the hell are all these flares getting into grounds too, there's another serious incident waiting to happen

What an absolute scumbag. The only positive thing is that even if Forest do go up he won’t get to be at any of the games and hopefully will spend much of next season at her majesty’s pleasure.

Isn’t Billy Sharp ex Forest as well? Always comes across as a good honest pro .. I don’t imagine one sane Boro fan had any ill feeling when he scored that goal against us after he lost his son.

Agree that this flare thing has become far too prevalent and it should be something which is relatively easy to control at the gate.

Lifetime bans for this too!

Take away their wembley allocation

Clubs should be warning fans prior to the games that any infringement on to the pitch will result in this... and then actually going through with it.

Where are all the police nowadays? I remember 20 years ago there was coppers every 5 metres along the sids of the pitch at the end of games to stop this. Are clubs at fault for reducing the number of officers at matches?

Yeah their fans are in agreement he was decent whilst he was there aswell, and he has a bit of a rivalry with Derby fans because he’s ex Forest. Was a bizarre thing to do and just sick

absolutely digraceful, but it's been coming that a player would be assaulted with the constant pitch invasions and idiocy of a large number of coke fueled 'fans'.

Needs stamping down. Life ban from the club, sued by Billy Sharp, arrested and prosecuted for assault by the police, and Forest need 5k of their wembley allocation taken away for failing to control their supporters, which of course will make this fan a pariah amongst his own fans because someone will miss out on a wembley ticket.

Astonishing.
I was on the way to a game and saw one 'fan' launch a running unprovoked sucker headbutt at a completely innocent unaware opposition supporter.
Thankfully two coppers were stood not far away and got the assailant.
The lad ended up in intensive care for weeks and at one point it was touch and go. The thug got 3 years.... nowhere near enough IMO.
What goes through their minds? Similar to the infamous horse puncher. They lose all sense of control.

This thing for running onto the pitch at the end of the season will have to be stopped. The nobhead few will always spoilt if for the majority.

I would rather football stadiums were half full of "old school" supporters as opposed to stadiums filled with drunken, coked up pr1cks like this.

and our club is no different, you just have to look at the increasingly disturbing behaviour by some of our "fans" at both home and away games.

its shameful, and when these morons get bored and move on to disturbing society somewhere else, old school football fans will be left with the legacy of being treated like animals, kettled by police at away grounds, and fenced in like vermin.
