Which Boro Era Deserves a TV Series

Just watched ‘When eagles dare’ the Crystal Palace documentary on Amazon and it got me wondering which Boro era deserves the streaming service treatment. Couple for the shortlist:

1985-1991 back from oblivion
1995-2001 the Robbo years
2002-2006 The cup and Europe
2014-2017 Karanka

To be fair, I don’t think there are many boro seasons I wouldn’t like to know a bit more about from behind the scenes, even the Southgate, Strachen, Mowbray, Pulis times would be interesting.

I’m sure there are many more times for those who lived the pre 86 times too.

A TV Company approached Boro in the late 90s. The club said no as I recall.
I think they were wise - the little interaction I had with the production company was that they had little understanding about football, the north east etc but wanted to make a fly in the wall tittle tattle piece - that is the way they came across.
I have a dim distant memory of being asked if Middlesbrough was near Bolton.

1986 - 1990. Brucy Riochs Red and White Army.

In my eyes it defines the start of belief in our club… which led to Gibbo and everything else, basically.

Got to remember the apathy prior to that - lots were saying it wouldn’t be a bad thing if Boro went out of existence/ get rid of the rampant hooliganism associated with us and football in general. With crowds of barely 5K… who would really miss us?

So yeah, that era of bouncing back to the top flight with virtually the same players in a wafer thin squad, seems too miraculous now.

Being part of the crowd, on the terraces, acting as one… you don’t get that often now in the seats.

Great memories

1956/61. Great years to watch, but overall a failure because promotion was not achieved.

Playing in the old 2nd division with 3 English and 1 Scottish internationin the forward line and a Welsh centre back in the defence.
Guaranteed a goal a game by Clough who during the period had the Boro captaincy removed via a “round robin” written by his “teammates”.
There was a bit of intrigue regarding Boro’s “defence” in those days whereby more than a couple of the club’s defenders were implicated in dodgy defence tactics having moved onto other clubs. These tales of infamy made the popular press but somehow Boro were not tarnished with wrongdoings. It did take us 2 whole decades to return to our rightful place in the top tier.

This sort of skullduggery could never happen now of course.

Yer Joking Aren’t Ya deserves The Damned Utd treatment for the big screen. Am sure Michael Sheen could play Robbo and Timothy Spall could be Graham Kelly. Stephen Graham might be able to play Phil Stamp?!

The book has already been written. It has to be this

Ps can somebody please tell me why photo has been changed to landscape and what I can do about it? Thanks

How many clubs had their players fighting before a FA Cup Final (Cox and Rav) or had a star player visit his sick auntie for 6 weeks in the middle of the season (Emo) or have three point deducted for not turning up or treble the salary record, break the transfer fee, complain to the foreign press about how bad the training was, train at a prison, with a manager that took the players for several pints after training, managed to get to 2 cup finals after never been to a final in the clubs history. I don't think any club anywhere has had a 1996/7.

If the Welsh centre back you're referring to was Mel Nurse then you'd have to do 1956/1962 as he didn't make his debut until then.
Or you could be referring to wing back Bill Harris of course !
