Cummins risks his parents lives knowingly, plus anyone at service stations on the way. No way did he drive for 5 hours with a 4 year old without stopping. I fail to see the difference between the two. I genuinely don't. The optics are different, but that's it.

Exactly this. You can’t blame people who simply aren’t that well politically informed for voting against their best interests, if that is what they are manipulated to do.
You can, however, blame them for not holding their government to account and for ignoring and accepting their blindingly apparent lies and shortcomings.

This. The fact is the large majority of the population just don't care. They can't possibly know who Cummings is or what a threat to democracy he is or he would have been pressured out long ago.
He'll survive this easily. And we'll continue to lose faith in the shambles of a government.

This isnt just going away, problems to that are that his wife reported on their "London Lockdown" and is now being dragged up.
Another problem for him is that he has other family which could have been called upon, however the main problem for Cummings is that he is a big scalp for Labour and certain Tories who sense a power grab.

I really can’t see how his actions can be defended, it just makes a mockery of what we’re being told, and quite frankly why should anyone take a blind bit of notice anymore if it’s one rule for the “elite” and another for us

No, all the government has done is create a rule for one and a rule for everyone else.
What Cummings did was against the guidelines as he has the financial ability to have isolated at home in London and arrange for family to come to him if required to care for his child.
This was not an exceptional circumstance.
