Been coarse fishing today

I went over to The Oak's at Sessay today coarse fishing with my youngest son (23). We had a great day fishing and bonding like we use to when he was 9 up until he was 15 - he wouldn't go then, it wasn't cool to go fishing and he became welded to his bed. He's been pestering me to sort out our gear since the start of lockdown so we could go when things opened up and today we seized the opportunity.

We left the house at 7.20 and had our rods in the water by 8.30. We mainly caught Rudd, Roach, Ide and Bream, but he bagged a Mirror Carp around the 3 to 4 lb mark.

An absolutely brilliant day we will both remember.

P.S. I caught more fish than him, but I would say that.

I was at Carr's lakes at Carlton near Stockton with my lad last Thursday and really enjoyed it, similarly to you we used to go regularly together once over until he started to go night fishing for large carp,I tried a couple of times but they were the longest nights of my life .We are going again today for an evening session and unlike you I'm hoping to catch more than him this time.

Yeah, it was just a daft little line based on the definition of 'coarse fishing'. I wasn't actually calling you a 'daf cun'. (y)
In the United Kingdom and Ireland coarse fishing refers to angling for freshwater fish which are traditionally considered undesirable as a food or game fish. Freshwater game fish are all salmonids — most particularly salmon, trout and char —s o generally coarse fish, also known as rough fish, are freshwater fish that are not salmonids. There is disagreement over whether Grayling should be classified as a game fish or a coarse fish.

I had heard about Carr's Lakes but didn't realise it such a commercial set up. I think we will give this a try.

Thanks for the heads up.

Had a decent session despite the strong winds, fished close in on the silverfish lake and caught lots of roach plus a few tench and crucian carp though not as many as my son again.
They have a small tackle shop on site which sells most end tackle and baits including maggots plus sandwiches, snacks and drinks that is open till around four o' clock.

Sounds like you both had a good day. We are going out again on Wednesday. My son wants to go to Sessay again but I would like to give Carr’s a try.

I was reading on there that they have golden tench. There use to be few up at Great Broughton when we use to fish there - they are a real nice fish.

How does one get into fishing? Dad question probably but none of my relatives partake in it and I've come to fancy trying or recently. Can you get lessons?
