Is our ‘weakness’ our strength ?

I thought Jones might be mentioned and yes it would weaken us a little but I fully expect wilder to compensate if this were to happen.

We are far from a one man team.

Wilders forwards at Sheff UTD all played very different roles. Mcgoldrick was pivotal despite never being prolific (although got 18 in promotion season).

I think its more about the press and graft. I imagine Watmore is the perfect player but for his knees and needing rotation.

Were desperate for a 20 goal striker but having goals spread around could well Make us more sustainable. If one of our goal scorers can’t play we’re not goosed unlike we might be if we lost our ‘20 goal striker ‘
I know what you mean but think we would be a better team if had a 20 goal striker in the team, feel like we would have a few more points and a better goal difference, when you think of the number of chances we have missed

Think we have that problem with Jones though, everything we do goes through him. If he gets injured we have a serious problem

Fulham have a 31 goal striker, by February! in their team. Take him out and they'd still have scored 2 goals fewer than the next highest scorers, and 9 more than us. Having a reliable goalscorer like that helps everyone.

In recent weeks we have been creating lots of chances and not scoring them. Someone had our Goals vs xG stats on here recently which shows we don't take our chances. So in answer to the opening question, no. We should have higher scoring forwards as well as contributions from other players. Being more prolific in front of goals would see us being much more comfortable in games instead of having to grab last minute winners. Hopefully the goals will start to flow more freely in the coming weeks.

I agree with some of the above though, everything goes through Jones at the moment. We need to find more ways of creating via other players.

At the end of the day were never going to turn a away a 20 goal striker but if you lose one it can be more of a psychological disadvantage.
Balogun might just end up contributing the equivalent in the remaining games

We havent got a wilkinson, hendrie, branca or armstrong have we but during our last promotion season the goals were also spread around the team with the likes of adomah and ramirez contributing from midfield with stuani, nugent and rhodes chipping in too

Has anyone seen anything of Muniz at Fulham, since they beat us to his signature?

I don't think it's really that much of a weakness now for us under Wilder. It's not a strength either though, we could do with our strikers being a bit more clinical.

You'd never turn down a 20 goal season striker, but you're probably better off having ideally 3 or 4 players who can score consistently. Of course it doesn't have to be an either-or or situation, Fulham being the obvious extreme example.

For Blackburn it's a problem just because they are so reliant on Diaz's goals. Take Diaz out and they're a mid table side. His impact is significant. But he's not really the problem, it's just that the rest of his team is a level below him. They would probably be a better side if they sell him and are able to invest the fee wisely in better players in a number of positions (easier said than done mind).

It's obviously a similar problem to if you have a star midfield playmaker or winger and they get injured. Which is why your better managers are massive on the ethos of the team, playing as a team and the success of the system not being dependent on one or two individuals. Wilder would never "build a team around X".
