Joe Lumley is ok

Can I have my thread title back yet now like or what?

Nah, seriously, very, very frustrating and I do wonder how it affects us for the rest of the season. The difference between a push for autos and being one of the pack.

Imagine a clanger in the playoffs?

He has some above champ level aspects to his game that are undermined by terrible decision making and poor focus.

Of course he has weaknesses, but we have to except this. This team is a work in progress, next week it will be Tav or someone else. As I've said previously, changes will undoubtedly happen at the end of the season. UTB

Those moaning about government ministers defending Johnson need to have a look at their defence of Lumox Lumley. We are where we are despite him, not because of him. If we fall short, I know where the biggest issue is and it isn’t up front missing open goals. It is a team game though and he is not the only culpable player, but he is the most consistent one.

Of course every player makes mistakes, it's football. BUT within football there's differing expectations of each position, as a goalkeeper consistency is key, you need to be somewhat reliable. Fortunately I think we have a manager that inspires confidence in his players regardless and for that I'm grateful. Having someone between the sticks you know always has a clanger in them and can regularly undo a whole games worth of good work is not great for team confidence.

Some goalkeepers get away with a lack of concentration and the odd clanger but they're often absolutely excellent at other things, shots go through Lumley and there's goals I've felt other average keepers we've had would've saved. He doesn't do enough to cover the deficiencies in his game.

Really does remind me of Steele in that regard. I hope he proves me wrong and he saves a pen in the play off final or channels his inner Gordon Banks but I just can't see it.

Are we able to sign players on a free at this point?

And therefore he needs us a supporters to pick him up until then. I know it's football and it brings out passions from deep down but he has shown improvement, mistakes happen. A black mark against the lad for sure.
Hi, I agree with backing him, it doesn't do any favors to the team not to, but we deffo need a replacement. This is an experienced keeper not a a young academy lad, and the point is he does this nearly every game, I won't get on his back at games but I do believe it will be impossible to go up with him in the sticks. Wilder wants to nock it around from that position and won't compromise (good for him), but Lumley can't do it, he doesn't seem to have a radar.

I don't think anyone will get on his back at the match, I know I won't. At the match our players should only get encouragement.
But on this message board there should always be scope to criticise.

3 times out of 26 appearances? So 11.5% of games. Not sure you've thought through what 'regularly' means.

can we get Dimi back?

I didn't use the word 'regularly', so not thought about it at all
I listed 3 games he's cost us - as requested by you
You replied to my post specifically asking a poster who said regularly what games this applied to. Apologies if your post was actually in support of my point that he hasn't regularly cost us games.

3 mistakes against Man Utd
Mistake against Mansfield
Qpr home
Qpr away
Blackpool home
Blackpool away in the cup
Birmingham

That’s just from memory, sure there are others but I can’t be bothered to look. And that’s just the big mistakes, plenty of other mistakes that thankfully go unpunished

It’s really not acceptable for any keeper at this level

Do you know what the word 'can' means? I said "can regularly" not "has regularly".

He HAS gotten away with countless other ricks that often cost goals. He makes constant errors and has been fortunate to get away with them, anyone watching him consistently can surely see this.

When opposition fans are pointing out your keepers a liability and you're aware of it because you've watched him over X amount of games then opposition managers are definitely going to know that and will target him.

he's an accident waiting to happen in every game as I've been saying since Aug 6th https://fmttmboro.com/index.php?search/123702/&q=lumley&c[users]=kuepper&o=date
That's exactly what QPR fans thought, and why QPR ultimately got rid. A mate who is a QPR fan said he had quite a few chances there over the years, but ultimately made too many mistakes each time.

I thought he seemed to spend a bit too much time/attention looking for someone in the crowd during the game on Wednesday. Seems like a nice guy, but not quite good enough for Championship level.

I think the point is we seem to have 2 or 3 very nervous moments in each game, the peril he creates must make our CBs very nervous, other than lumley we look calm, assured, and solid at the back. Yes we have the occasional moment as all proslfessional sportspeople do but I'd say Lumley regularly puts us in dangerous situations in lots of games. He seems to have way more confidence than ability. For me I'd much prefer lumley to just hoof it, I don't want to play hoof ball at all but if we can minimise those dangerous situation, I think we would turn several draws to wins and wins to draws over the course of a season.
