Burnley

Burnley are desperate for a striker. Vydra isn't good enough, Barnes is finished and injured and Jay Rodrigues won't score the goals they need. Carroll could be seen to be a zero risk quick fix before they can replace Wood - so whilst it is amusing it makes sense. The guy is match fit (for now) and if you are desperate, needs must.

Burnley seemed to have been blessed with a number of in-form big lads over the last (7?) years the have been in the PL.
They always seemed to have just enough to get over the line.
Chris Wood, Ashley Barnes, Sam Vokes......

I guess all good things have to come to an end

Its not the big lads they need - its a Charlie Austin or a Danny Ings that they will require to get out of the mess they are in now.

I see Newcastle v Burnley is the very last fixture of the season. That could be interesting.

I think the relegation battle will be over by then.

Watford and Burnley are going to sink like a stone.
But hopefully one of them proves me wrong.

Massive game against Watford tomorrow. Massive for both managers whose jobs will be on the line too
Looking forward to seeing the half time and full time score of that one whilst at the Boro game tomorrow. Hoping for a few laughs in the crowd 🤣

Is he zero risk - in terms of his terrible injury record. Surely you are investing a lot of hopes as well as some money on a player that is unlikely to be able to repay you with minutes on the pitch.

Surely Burnley can afford the £8k weekly wage for Caroll? ;)
IF he is on this relatively low amount perhaps it was just to put himself in the shop window.
Offer him a short contract and a big bonus if they stay up (linked to him achieving a number of appearances).
Zero risk.

Even if they did bring in Carroll on a free, they're 100% going to be trying for another striker too.

The worrying thing about Burnley is that even if they do come down they now have a nice chunk of financial resource.
They have one of the lowest wage bills in the PL and their 'agricultural' style is pretty effective.
Yet another well resourced PL club could be dropping into the championship.
Unless of course they suddenly lose their minds and spend heavily on a clutch of absolute donkeys on relegation;)

Dyche and the Burnley owners have been at odds for a while now and I can't help but think that the Woods sale may be the final nail in the coffin.

If they do drop, and this only adds to the possibility, I'm not sure he'll be there next season.

Apparently the release clause specificied that it only applied to summer transfer windows so they could have rejected the bid.
Fair enough, mind would anyone pay anything like £20-25m for him once newcastle have either been relegated or stayed up. He signed a new deal in Nov until 2023 so for them its probably a good way to switch someone they spent money on and decent wages who will have little to no resale value, into an investment towards a player for the future so can see the logic either way even if they do go down.
