On the news this evening regarding the Championship going ahead

It seems to be all about the prem and the efl are trying to run along behind. But unlike the prem I can’t see the EFL being able to compete financially with this and I can’t see it really happening.

The prem yes that’s going to happen but the efl I just can’t see it.

I agree, TBH, I'm not fussed about the PL one bit
My post was regarding the Championship & 1 & 2, only last week they were saying the conclusion will be done with a ballot, which I disagree with, then out of the blue the teams are going to play out the season

I think regards to the EFL they are doing this to them say well we tried to restart etc and this might come into play if legal action by certain clubs is taken.

The number of tests required to make restarting football work right now is abhorrent. If there is such extra lab capacity to test footballers and support staff 2/3 times a week, then that capacity should be used to ensure frontline workers get increased testing and receive their results faster.

Especially as it may well happen at the same time as a spike in new infections start coming through due to the easing of restrictions.

Chris - I have been saying this for weeks regarding testing of footballers and key workers.

I heard Glen Murray being interviewed earlier and he was saying why should the PL have relegation if the Championship doesn't finish. He said it would be unfair to the relegated clubs.

The government have also chirped in again saying they would welcome a June start.

Void the season and move on.

The restart of football and sport in general is very much part of government strategy and anything that diverts attention away from Covid-19 and their performance in dealing with it is privately being welcomed at Westminster, it also gives the impression of returning to normality to the public and the wider world, I believe the idea is that give confidence that things are under control and England is reopening for business, there are money issues at stake as my understanding is that if the Government take the decision then certain insurances will pay out if the football authorities make the decision then they do not, I’m not sure of how it will all play out but there is certainly gentle pressure being applied by the government for professional sport to restart.

I've just watched Darren McCarragh, the gobby Portsmouth chairman on Sky. He actually made a decent point though - if they play it costs them maybe £300k in testing etc. for the players. If they end the season now, he reckoned it would be more than £600-900k in repaying TV fees, season tickets, paying staff to do nothing with no guarantee they'd be back this side of Xmas. There's a cluster of about six near play off teams who want to play and he said if the other don't want to, fine, they can forfeit. It's a mess.

Seems obvious to me that the views on whether the Leagues should be null and vouded depend on which Club you support. Not surprising most of us wanting to see them end given that we are safe and hate Leeds.
Even when I hear someone like a doctor opine on radio I think to myself “well I guess he supports Everton”

Zoophonic, i'm quite happy that the current league starts & complets their fiixtures only when normality has been resumed, if it means the Boro go down, then so be it, for fairness of sport EVERY league throughout the land should complete their fixtures, something I've said from the very beginning

Since the PL started, chairman have been treating football as a business brand, which is all well and good but when in the face of a global crisis like this, they also need to accept that they are just that, a business.

Many business's in the UK are suffering, many cant open with millions of jobs at risk if they go under and there's the key workers putting thier lives at risk everyday.

Football is not a special case. If clubs go under or Sky/BT have their profit margins reduced then so be it as unfortunate as the outcomes may be. The restart should only be going ahead when critical resources that save lives are not being diverted away from the NHS, care homes or other key workers.

But thats exactly why they are disagreeing with each other. They are all protecting their own financial corner.

Have to say had we been in Leeds position I think very few of us word have wanted to see the Leagues finish without promotion. If you are being honest with yourself you would agree. Erimus on the other hand you seem a highly principled man and therefore I place you in the "very few"

You will be able to wrestle an opponent to the ground during a corner but you can't hug your mum.
'Distasteful' doesn't even come close

But to play devil’s advocate, you’re not going to prison if you hug your mum. You’re not hugging your mum to protect her. If footballers don’t mind catching the virus off each other, or living in strict(er) quarantine, isn’t it their problem?

As I said on another thread, the only way this idea will work is if the PL promise to send a load of money to the NHS to offset any bad feeling and pay for extra tests/PPE etc. I do think having something else to talk about would be a good thing, but not if it only results in further bad vibes towards footballers.
