Well, the hair clippers have arrived!

I do mine myself and my wife tidies up the back. I got her to do my first one and had to go to the barbers and get them to tidy it up. I go 1/4 inch all over, leave it for 3 weeks and go again.

You will be amazed how warm your hair keeps you, the first time you lop it all off. It's like brain freeze.

Start higher than you intend to go and work down. Its not that hard to do but its better than having to go shorter if you make a mistake.

Depending on the product you have, check if you need to oil the blade.

if you're having varying lengths, watch YT vids to look at how to taper/fade

I've just ordered some. My son did me a number 3 with my old clippers but they are about 30 years old and couldn't handle the longish hair on top so it was a painful experience. The trouble is that there are precious few clippers available at the moment either at Argos, Amazon or other sites so I had to order from Aliexpress in China and they will probably take 3 to 4 weeks to arrive.

They might be fine but may have just needed a new blade or the blade oiling. if the blade is replaceable, see if you can get one and you might be able to cancel your order.

Nah, I'm looking forward to them now Fair. You know what it's like when you've got something on order.
On another subject, I made that Saturday bread for the first time last weekend. I could only get own label flour from the Co-op. It was probably bleached and it may have had high humidity which resulted in a very wet dough. Wet doughs are good though if you don't mind getting a bit sticky and the end result, after cooking it on full gas in a dutch oven, was fantastic. The smell, the taste, the appearance, everything.

Thanks for the book, it's my new best one.

Glad you liked it - yeah I think i mentioned (but in case I didn't, I meant to!) that the American flours behave slightly differently to ours so the recipe does end up a bit wetter than most expect, you can just add some extra if you like to tame it down or just take extra care - I personally use Marriages Manitoba canadian bread flour, best bread flour I have used. You can get it online in 16kg sacks and just portion it up.

Did you use the dutch oven? Works brilliantly for me.

Yes I did use the dutch oven. I've never used that method before but I can't see me doing it any other way now.

Dutch oven? Isn’t that farting in bed and sticking the missus’ head under the duvet? Wouldn’t have thought it was for bread 🤣

It is, but also the name of a large pan. Cast iron ones are great for making bread. Farty bread is maybe good for yeast but I’d not like to find out 😂

Another way is to have it in the oven and put some water in a baking tray. Just a bit, it steams the oven and keeps the bread soft. Good if people you are baking for don’t like that hard crust effect, but for me that’s the best bit! It’s usually 2-3 slices gone within the first ten minutes.

The overnight one is even better In that book but the Saturday one is much quicker to do.

Is that bread recipe in this thread? Would you mind sharing it with me please, if like to have a go. If I'm going to mess my hair up, there's no reason not to have a go at making a mess in the kitchen too!

I'm afraid I have done it yet, Mrs Fufkin has been too busy with work and I really don't think attempting it by myself is a viable option. It's also been suggested I just tidy it up a bit rather than a full on haircut. We'll see what happens over the weekend

Man up Artie, you will have weeks to regrow if required. Also you will look really hard and the chicks dig bald heads.

It's in a book, I can send you the PDF, but to get the best out of it you'll benefit from having a cast iron dutch oven. You can do it without it though, just you get the best results with one imo.
