Germany to legalise cannabis.

I watched a TV program a few months ago how a new mayor of Amsterdam is trying to make it illegal for 'foreigners' to smoke weed.

So if you want to enjoy a weed smoking weekend then best get in quick if he has his way. You'll need to be Dutch to purchase and smoke. This has already made many coffee shop owners say it will just increase the illegal trade. Dutch people will buy it and sell to 'foreigners' at a massive increase in price.

I've not had a 'spliff' (showing age) since the 90s when you had that resin stuff that burned holes in my shell suit😂😂. I think a drag of actual modern weed would end me lol.
What about the mayors of other Dutch cities, are they on board with this or will they just reap the benefit of increased tourism?

The made up man in the sky who promises heaven but also doesn't stop kids getting brain cancer?
No I'm just wondering where the logic comes from the "it's natural, therefore it should be legal"

Poppies are natural...

Poppies are indeed natural and in its natural form opium is probably no more addictive or dangerous than alcohol. Mushrooms and cannabis are far less harmful and addictive. Even in its purified form ie Morphine/Heroin (diamorphine) is in a similar category to alcohol regarding harm and addictiveness. People have been using these natural drugs for pain relief or recreation for thousands of years and it is only in the last hundred years or so that we have been trying to prevent them.

Cannabis in its purest most natural form isn't a problem for me. Same applies to other 'drugs'.

Wow, I've seen some crazy crazy posts on here today but never thought I'd see someone advocating heroin abuse!

Astounded by people on here advocating cannabis as a good thing. Particularly for teenage brain's psychosis is a real danger. I had a friend who dabbled in class a drugs for years but in the end it was cannabis which ruined his mental health. Its far from harmless

Its far from harmless
True. But scientifically less dangerous than either alcohol or tobacco.

The danger with illegal drugs is more likely to be due to variations in quality and strength though for some cannabis will indeed trigger psychosis whether it is releasing a "weakness" or something more dangerous is difficult to say. Kids will experiment with substances, if they are legal and of reliable strength and constituents then the risk is ameliorated but it will never be zero.

It is plain to me that the "war on drugs" has been lost it would be better for everyone if supply and provision was legalised, taxed and controlled.

People are saying that it is less harmful than alcohol, which is universally accepted. It's true that cannabis is not good for the developing mind of a child but here's the nub, youngsters find it easier to buy cannabis than alcohol because the only ID a dealer requires is a picture of the queen on a banknote. The quality, marketing and sale of alcohol are strictly controlled and many supermarkets will not sell to anyone without ID unless they look 25.

The links between cannabis and psychosis are interesting because causality has never been proven and many scientists believe that the link may be explained as self medication of people who are predisposed to psychotic incidents. Even then the figures are tiny and the rates of psychosis in this country have not changed since cannabis became popular and even through its increased use and potency. However, alcohol and tobacco are also linked to psychosis but nobody talks about that.

From Medical News Today:- "The Lancet examined this issue. Its authors reported that smoking tobacco every single day was linked with both increased risk of psychosis and earlier age of onset of psychotic disorder.

In this latest systematic review, people having a first episode of psychosis were three times more likely to be smokers than nonsmokers."

I've never smoked in my life but tried edibles including THC oil - I'm a Tee-totaller so enjoy the buzz of the oil/edibles.

I wouldn't do it daily but when I do I never suffer from hangovers the same way that I did when I was a drinker

And compared with the cost of Acohol abuse to society would the cost of legalised weed be any higher? Not sure it would.
But the reality is the law is just not going to change,.
I think the law will change - once Germany do it how long before the rest of europe follows? Its already legal in lots of US states. It will take time but it will happen here too.
