It's a shame we can't brew petrol at homeCulture is the key. Price of alcohol goes up too much and everyone will get the homebrewing kits out again.
If we go to a restaurant should we expect the food to cost the same as in the supermarket? Regarding booze in the U.K., it is a massive cultural blight. In terms of pricing, it's usually a race to the bottom. Which pubs are busiest? In my experience, the ones with the cheapest drinks.Landlords (myself included when I was one) have been saying for years we need a minimum unit price so stop supermarkets being able to sell FAR cheaper than pubs. This will also hopefully slow the sales of cheap super strength ciders etc that seriously.
Increase supermarket prices, keep pubs the same.
Having just come back from Spain how can they sell booze cheaper in pubs and supermarkets but they don't appear to be a nation of alcoholics? Maybe finding the answer to this and addressing the culture might be a place to start.

Lots of landlords just expect people to come in and pay over the odds as if the trade owes them a living. Free market economics, for all the faults, is adept at illustrating areas of economic failure. The pub market is one of them.Fair point Sulamani.
The pub trade has a lot of issues.
Culture has a lot to blame and the Government should be trying to address that really.

I'm sick of £5 a pint so I'm currently supping unleaded, which seems reasonable at £1-49.9 a litre currently.Culture is the key. Price of alcohol goes up too much and everyone will get the homebrewing kits out again.
You'd know far more than I do about the intricacies pal. Agree that the industry is long overdue some major reforms. It's almost certainly unsalvageable in anything resembling the "good old days".I feel for the landlords with unfair tenancies etc - it all needs sorting.
150 quid a litre. Fack me. Is that Harrods unleaded?I'm sick of £5 a pint so I'm currently supping unleaded, which seems reasonable at £149.9 a litre currently.
To be fair you can have that argument on where probably half of the NHS budget is spent...............The question is, why should I pay more because others can’t manage to do things in moderation?
