My son in law is a Peterborough supporter. Although since he has been with my daughter he has probably seen more Middlesbrough matches.
When my first grandson was born she said to him if they were to be christened Catholic, the children would be Middlesbrough supporters.
They now have three boys. Costs me a fortune in Boro shirts, and Band T shirts when I go to Wacken.
Would have been nice to come up for the game, but clashed with others things
But we will be having a family day out at Cardiff net week.

I worked with a lad at Lackenby who went to the game. He told me he'd come straight off nightshift and travelled down on the coach. He'd had a bit to drink on the journey down (not to excess according to him). With the lack of sleep and the drink he passed out. He was passed to the front of the stand and put on a stretcher and carried round the touchline. As he went past the dugout Big Jack looked down at him and muttered ............ "drunken b****d".

I’m a southerner by birth. From Cambridgeshire not far from Peterborough, moved to Teesside to study, when my degree finished I stayed in the North East and lived in the area for a decade. Happy days. That’s how I became a Boro fan. Went to Ayresome park with a mate for a game one weekend and could see what the club meant to the area.

Members of my family are Posh fans, I’ve got several mates who are too. In normal times I go watch them a fair bit as a second team. In fact I actually went to their last game with fans before lockdown in March 2020. Unlike Boro i’ve seen them win at Wembley (3 times). And the first game of football I ever went to was the league cup quarter final in 1991-2. Albeit in the home end with my brother and dad.

So am looking forward to Saturday. My first game for two years and one of the first weekends I’ve been able to do anything since being ill. I’ll be there with one of my Posh supporting mates. Because I’m such a good bloke I’ve agreed to sit in the away end with him so I’ll be sat on my hands and keeping extremely quiet. Seemed a bit silly to drive up together and sit in two different stands.

Posh have been utterly hopeless away from home so far this season. I’m hoping for a scrappy home win but fear it will be typical Boro…

So I just got back home.

Match was a dreadful wasn’t it ? Two really poor out of sorts teams.

I always hate it when posh play Boro because as much as I want Boro to win I don’t want posh to lose.

Anyway it was quite funny watching from the away end. Outed myself as a Boro fan to a pitch side steward before KO who thought it was my first visit to the riverside, we had a conversation about how crap we’ve been this season and he even offered to let me through the gate into the south stand….

I know it’s been covered already but we had a perfect view when Posh should have had a penalty and the view from the away end was that the ref was an appalling homer. And with an unbiased hat on he was.

Managed not to flinch when paddy slotted the penalty home but did a tiny fist pump when Joshy coulson scored the second and turned round and smiled at my mate.

And if you go on Peterborough’s official website they’ve done an gallery of photographs of the away fans and you can see me on one of the photos…thankfully i’m obscured by the loudmouth stood in front of me with his arms outstretched…can’t be doing with that…

Then an enjoyable Saturday night in sedgefield and onto the races yesterday it was quite busy and loud because they’d given a load of tickets to Durham/Newcastle Uni students for freshers week, the majority of whom were just there to not watch the racing and just get ***ed up. I struggled to be in a big crowd in an unfamiliar environment. Luckily my mate recognised I’d had a panic attack and I coped. Broke even which was a Brucie bonus.

Visited Saltburn-By-The-Sea, the white water rafting course at the tees barrage and Roseberry topping over the weekend (didn’t climb it just looked at it from the car park) all I will say is those of you who live on Teesside should appreciate these gems on your doorstep. It’s definitely not grim up north.

Quite hard drive back on the A1 earlier with a lengthy delay and got stuck in a local traffic jam coming off the motorway. Broke down in tears when I got home, guess it was all too much. Still struggling with my emotions now. Despite doing everything the doctors tell me I’m still not fully fit after five months and it’s soul destroying. Hopefully I’ll be ok in the morning but I know I won’t be. This depression and anxiety is just too much at times.

Anyway UTB. October 2019 was my Last game at the riverside, but it won’t be two years til my next visit and I definitely won’t be in the away end…well, unless it’s Peterborough…

Glad you got through it aet, it obviously took its toll. Hope you're feeling better today - one day at a time.

Thanks grumpy. Despite being absolutely shattered I only got a couple of hours sleep last night. Woke up at 3am coughing and spluttering and didn’t nod off again until the sun came up. Still tearful. Anxiety is just getting the better of me all the time….

I have family living in Peterborough, in fact my brother still has his Gold card and gets to home games whenever he can. He came up with a couple of Posh fans, who quite regularly come up to Boro with him for a night out.
Unfortunately on the the way to the ground on Saturday we had to intervene when a couple of Boro’s “Green Street Wanabes “ tried to pick them off , 50-60 yr olds acting like school kids, unbelievable.They didn’t realise the lads were in our company and they thought that we were also from Peterborough until we explained that we grew up in Thorntree and eventually they backed off.

Sorry to hear that. I’ve no idea why anyone would go to a football match to do anything like that. We didn’t have any bother walking to/from the ground. Hope it didn’t spoil the day too much.
Also nice to know I’m not the only Boro round here!!!
