In today's edition of silly old man won't resign... Philip Allot, N Yorks PFC

Philip Allot has been told 'for God's sake man, go' and received a unanimous vote of no-confidence at a meeting of the Yorkshire Police and Crime Panel.

These are the comments and actions that have led to today's impasse:

Also: Philip Allot is good advice for anyone following last week's fuel shortages.

Victim blaming is the worst form of cowardice, he should do the decent thing and resign, however decency and doing the right thing are something local Police and Crime Commissioners don't seem capable of.

Allott's misogynistic views are dangerous and out of touch for anybody in an elected role such as his and he has undermined the work that others are trying to do to rebuild confidence in the Police after the Sarah Everard tragedy.

Now he has resigned, and all it took was condemnation from:

Boris Johnson
Priti Patel
Keir Starmer
The majority of his 32 strong team
The Conservative council leaders of North Yorkshire
A sustained campaign from the Yorkshire Post led ferociously by the editor
BBC Look North not dropping the story
1,000 letters of complaint to his office or North Yorks police
11,000 people signing a petition demanding his resignation

Yeah mate, you've had yer chips. Now get off.

I seem to have misunderstood his statement initially. I thought his intention was to express that the more tools you have in your locker the safer you will be. For instance if a martial arts teacher or a self defence instructor teaches women to knee an attacker in the pebs or blow a whistle or carry a can of pepper spray, it isn't regarded as victim blaming. Similarly, if a person knows his or her rights they will be more confident of spotting and resisting a trumped up arrest. I was wrong.

That will teach him for answering a direct question. He should have had better media training like the MPs and learnt how not to answer a question.
