Hamilton Ricard - Every Goal

Sol Campbell said he’s the best striker he ever played against...

He was either useless or shockingly good for me. Still remember him being unveiled at half time v someone, waving the scarf over and around his head, and thinking, I like him, he looks nuts! 😂

At times he struggled to do the basics but his goalscoring record was impressive, and he scored some beauties.

Yes I think he had a good partnership with Deane too. I remember people around me used to give him a lot of stick which in hindsight I don't really get, but I was 9 so probably not the best judge of a player!

Yeah he was a funny one, he scored some spectacular goals, but always looked slow, cumbersome and awkward, but nevertheless had a decent first touch and good close control he had a great shot too, but would go for long spells without scoring. He was a well travelled player by the time he hung his boots up

The first few games he played in it was embarrassing how bad he looked. Nothing would come off for him that first season. The ball going through his legs and missing a chance where Alun Armstrong scores last game of season sums him up that first season for me. He really came good though. I think he fooled defenders because half the time he didn't know himself what he was doing.

That's true, but I think people often forget that in his last season or two he looked even worse and couldn't get a game for the reserves right at the end.

He was great 98/99 but the term 'confidence player' could have been invented for him. The fluctuation between how good he could be and how bad he could be, all within the 3 years he was here, was about as wide as any I've seen.

Its not inaccurate to say he was dynamite, but its also not inaccurate to say he was absolute tripe - he really was both!
