By 2050 a Quarter of Football Grounds Will Flood Annually

Within three decades a quarter of all 92 League and Premier clubs will be prone to at least annual floods because of environmental changes.
Maybe not in my lifetime but it could well be in yours. It would of course be quite disastrous.
As football fans our biggest contribution to the carbon footprint is actually the journey to home games, not away games. Is this something we should consider tackling or we might be going to watch water polo rather than football at the Riverside.

You watch it'll be the second time in the Boro's history where we are just about to crack the top flight when it grinds to a halt . The first time was second World War. 😭

1st World War before that screwed us as well. We were a team on the up and had just finished 3rd.

We were in a relegation place when the second world war broke out.
It is one of those enduring myths about how we were top of the league. But to be fair am sure there was nothing normal about life and football in the late summer and autumn of 1939.

Well not having a 3pm blackout could help the carbon footprint

Yes but it wouldn't help grass roots - I was listening to a Cheltenham fan last week telling how a local non league club had 20-30 extra fans each week Cheltenham played away from home. If Cheltenham games were streamed they might well lose these fans. That 20-30 kept the club solvent.
I was impressed he was looking at the picture that way around but he also said if Premier League did not have 3pm black out Cheltenham could be put out of business.

As far as the Riverside is concerned - it is very unlikely to be as long away as 2050 before we are flooded.
This could be the final decade before we face major problems.

A bit harsh, I thought we'd only played one game when war broke out? Away to Liverpool.

The point is we were one of the favourites to win the league that season. We DEFINITELY would have.

We had played 3 games https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1939–40_Football_League
The season before we finished 4th. We were well fancied but it isn't really accurate to say that the title was snatched away from us either.
