Shamima Begum on GMTV

I do wonder if she could become a good unwitting honeytrap for the security services were we to let her come here. Have a secret surveillance order put on her as no doubt she would attract a fair few crazies that might otherwise have escaped the gaze of the authorities.

The only way she should be able to come back is to face justice. I actually imagine she would take that and do a few years in prison to 'get her life back'.

The better punishment is leaving her where she is (also saves a court case and fees for holding her for a few years).

I watched a sky documentary about her. I didn't feel one bit of sympathy for her. I know she was young but actively went to a lot of effort to get into ISIS. The only thing that I thought was harsh is that she's had a couple of kids die. They are absolutely innocent in all of this.

That's exactly we should come back. If someone in this country plotted to murder and escaped justice by moving to another country we would be angry, I don't see how this is any different.

Ffs, she was a teenager, a groupy. A repulsive organisasion but she was a kid

She was 15, old enough to know right from wrong. But ok, young enough to allow for making mistakes, even if joining Islamic State is at the top end of ‘youthful exuberance’.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but she was 19 when interviewed and she said she did not regret joining IS and was pretty nonchalant about beheadings and atrocities against Yazidis?

I still think she’s our problem and if she’s changed then that is absolutely fantastic (even if it won’t give comfort to the many victims of IS), but I’m not going to lose any sleep over her or her fate.

Of course she was a minor when she went there, so could be considered a victim that should have had protection/ problems (runs for cover) Bring her back and let the courts decide.

The debate isn’t about whether anyone feels sympathy for her. it’s about whether she should face justice before the British courts and whether we have unlawfully revoked her British citizenship.

Bangladesh certainly don’t seem in a rush to take responsibility for her.

Why should Bangladesh take responsibility for her, she was born in Britain, as said above she’s our problem however we deal with it.

I agree it’s farcical but that’s the rationale for us revoking her British citizenship. Basically we are saying she’s now a Bangladeshi citizen and their problem. Unsurprisingly Bangladesh don’t agree.

Just watched it..looks to me like she has already Westernised herself..what was with the new hair do, Nike Cap, tank top, diamond ring and digital watch? Was it a ploy to show everyone she had binned the burk? Strange if you ask me.

Stuck firmly on the fence with this one.

At the age she disappeared I have no doubt there'd been an element of grooming and coercion in it so I do have sympathy for the 15 year old lass that made a bad choice.
But she did show full on support for IS, albeit she would argue what else could she do?

Javed has said "If you knew what I knew" her citizenship would never be given back to her.
But last time I looked that not how us Brits do things........ it should be tested in a court.

Lets face it, I suspect the majority in the UK agree to keep her out, the press have seen to that, and thats all that matters to the Tories..... right thing to do or not.

Desperate to come back, but refers to the country as "your democracy"?

She might have been a kid when she went, but she's clearly a duplicitous, cynical and remorseless woman who carried an AK and was part if the ISIS morality police.
She says we should have sympathy for her...does she have sympathy for the women who she had beaten for wearing nothing more than brightly coloured shoes and clothing ?
No sympathy for the Manchester bombing victims either...it was nothing more than retaliation as far as she was concerned.

For me she can stop in Syria , but I suppose we're obliged to bring her back.

Aye, not so much about the individual concerned for me as the apparent application of mob "justice". Whatever the outcome there should be a consistent, transparent process.

I think what would bother me is she would come back and be some sort of celebrity, she would be doing interviews selling her story whilst taking legal aid and money to pay for her security. The whole thing would be an absolute circus. The trial would no doubt last for months with appeal after appeal all the while decent ordinary people paying for all of this.

let her have her justice but do it from where she is - the whole world has been working remotely for the last two years - no reason why her and her legal team can’t do the same imo.

She's never been a Bangladeshi citizen, never been there, never held a passport there. It's pretty ridiculous/dangerous for this government to claim she is Bangladeshi. The government has the power to remove people from society, it's called prison, revoking citizenship is a different path and a dangerous one

there are two ways it would go, she would reject celebrity status because it would most likely lead to her getting into 'situations' where her life was at risk, or she would embrace it to push her twisted extremist message in which case she would be an easy trap to identify other extremists.
