National insurance tax hike

Rather than seeing it as young people paying for someone else's care now, it could be viewed that they are paying for their care in the future, like NI and state pension, it's the people currently in work who pay for the pension of those who are retired now.

Too much divide and rule about this discussion, working classes and middle classes fighting amongst themselves, whilst the people with the real wealth, continue to keep theirs come what may and get richer.

I just want labour to win, I don't care left right or centre, please let us win.

These Tory's are complacent, evil, greedy, corrupt I cannot think of a more disgusting government in my life time.
Well said, shame on those who voted for this shambles of a government when the writing was on the wall

I am not fighting on this one again. People voted against labour because of one issue. It was labours fault for not making their case clear. The in fighting has to stop or we will lose again.

The issue with this point is that most people don't use a care home or even care in the home, but nearly everyone has to pay NI for their working lives. The generation above me there are 10 known blood relatives. One has used a care home since Jan but now in hospital, another has used care in the home for 13 months, another 6 are dead without using SS or private care and 2 are still living independently.

The rich will use private care/servants and keep their wealth in tax protected Family Trusts. Without creating a state like China you will never break the Trusts, because those that make the law use them.

That's true not everyone will need care, but that's like all insurance, you get help when need it, not everyone ever claims on, house, car, holiday insurance etc, but you pay for it in case you do, it's how a social society should work. Those that can contribute and at some point get something back, like lots of things, not everyone uses the roads, or have children in schools, or use the health service as often as others etc.

Why do we need to seperate ni and income tax. For me it would be better to scrap ni all together and just revise income tax.

Seems like a good idea, .👍
Our tax system doesn't seem fit for purpose if the likes of Starbucks,Facebook and Amazon are trading hundreds of millions and paying thousands in tax. I don't see anything of my wages until HMRC have had their hand in first.😆

It's not a binary choice or compulsory, being fed up with labour doesn't mean you have to support a lying misogynistic racist

Yes I would agree but either way it doesn't matter as it's all forms part of the overall tax take (although different criteria) to pay for public services.

In principle you would expect the more tax we pay the more public services are provided. There is a tipping point between the two, and that's where the disagreements usually occurs as to what that is.

It isn't about stopping them owning a house.

It is about the fairness of someone unable to afford to buy a house, on Universal Credit & having that docked by £20 a week but paying more national insurance so that a person exempt from NI can pass on the full value of their house to their children.
A person who has worked and paid tax and NI their entire life it’s worth remembering
Something we will also benefit from when we reach that age

During your entire life you have used; education, police, NHS, the roads, contribute to the Army and other Services, payed towards social benefit, all the things government spend money on. As someone said you will be paying for the facilities of care if required.

The idea of taxation is not to think it's me, but the state.

You are aware that dividends and income from trusts are taxed and ordinary folk can use tenants in common ownership to safeguard inheritance of property.

'ordinary folk'?

Is that as opposed to the extraordinary folk that you champion?

The term 'ordinary' was in response to the above quote meaning those who are not rich and don't have servants. In that sense I consider myself ordinary and I don't champion the rich. I was pointing out that there are trusts available to the non rich as well.

Trusts could be closed tomorrow with the political will. Something Starmer should jump on.

I can't think of a single reason to have them.

Make it a rule that 50% of the value of the trust has to be paid to HMRC on the point of signing not on death.

Any assets and property over say £100k to be taxed at 40%
