Qatar World Cup - is it time to cancel?

Erling Haaland and the Norway squad have I think. Protested against human rights abuses in Qatar with t-shirts before a match and threatened with a ban.
The Dutch did as well. Not sure what influence they can have at this late stage, unless you have an outright boycott supported by UEFA and probably CONMEBOL.
The scandal 5 years or so back, which resulted in Blatter and co. getting booted should really have been the change needed to strip Qatar of the 2022 WC. Maybe the possible threat of legal action was something Infantino didn't want to deal with.

It was corrupt when awarding it there in the first place. It's no coincidence that PSG were bought out at approximately the same time FIFA awarded the World Cup to Qatar. The event will never be boycotted though. There's too much money involved and too many people stood to gain from it.

I'd admire anyone who boycotts it.

I don't think many will dare though: FIFA's stance will be "if you don't play in this one, don't think you're playing in the next 2 either".

That throws up the possibility of teams taking dives in qualifying (Scotland might claim this), but that would lack the impact of qualifying then refusing to play.

England, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Brazil and Argentina should collectively pull out.
I know awarding it to Russia was probably corrupt but I thought it would go there eventually, however Qatar was just laughable.
Its all, as usual, about money & back handers. Which is why we'll never hold again anytime soon - all the grounds/hotels/transport etc are already in place.

countries hold the power FIFA can not exist without them... the game does not need FIFA. Maybe fans can demonstrate in the grounds in each league... enough momentum could force the players to think twice & maybe even the national bodies... just move it - the game is ruined by money, majority think / know Russia & Qatar were both bought...

Agree with your point about Russia: there were some good reasons for taking it there, even if the decision was actually made for bad reasons.
Qatar is completely different.

Football authorities, players, fans will turn a blind eye to this because its the world Cup, a big showcase tournament

Qatar as always treated its workers dreadfully. When I was there in the 80's there was an Indian welder who was coming to the end of his 2 year contract. Thats 2 years straight off no home leave during that time. Anyway they told him they did not have replacement for him and he would have to stay another year. The guy was devastated but so scared they would withold money he was due that he stayed.

Horrible the way they treated workers. Thats just one of many tales and I wasn't there that long.

I worked offshore Qatar for QGPC refurbing satelite platforms.
An Indian worker fell through a hole in the deck bounced off the jacket and was dead by the time he hit the water. They fished the poor soul out bagged him up and put him in the cooler and carried on working as if nothing had happened.

FIFA would also be sued into bankruptcy if they attempted to pull out after all the investment in Qatar. It should never have been awarded to them, and that is on Blatter and his pack of b***ds. I'd hope the current FIFA directorate have looked at ways to get out of this, but I don't think it's viable anymore

Agreed. I think it would be down to one of the major nations (probably Germany) to pull the plug and then others would follow.

We can only dream and hope.
FIFA being bankrupt would benefit footfall immensely. eventually.
While FIFA , EUFA et al exist is is impossible to root out the inbred corruption.
I know it is a pipe dream but a fresh start is the only way.
Long live the revolution.

Just dont wtch it, tell yourselves whats happening is wrong & switch off, but people will do as people do, I can do anything about it so I may as well watch it
