I also can't support any party that has brought Peter 'I will undermine Corbyn every single day and Epstein is a good guy' Mandelson back into the party.Bit hard when they're being purged from the party..
Don't forget and I will continue to shout this the right of the party DID NOT support the party when Corbyn was in charge. They actively campaigned against the party daily.
I also can't support any party that has brought Peter 'I will undermine Corbyn every single day and Epstein is a good guy' Mandelson back into the party.
Well you're clearly looking for negatives without being prepared to accept positives. Labour hasn't won an election since 2005. Corbyn didn't (twice), Miliband didn't, Brown didn't. It can be said that the Tory leader in each of those GEs was just as bad as the current incumbent (and anyone who calls him by his made up name needs their bumps feeling). He's behind Boris in a week when he's tried to wriggle out of doing the same Coronavirus self isolation everyone else has to do.
I don't really know why I'd want to look for them? I read news to try and understand what's actually going on, not to try and convince myself everythings okay despite evidence to the contrary?
Who said debate was dead ehIf you don't know where your own cobblers are mate then you have bigger problems than I do.
I like you as a poster Borofur but I think that you're kidding yourself if you think that Starmer is going to win an election. He never had any intention of doing that. His only job is to purge the left and that's what he's doing. His polling is abysmal and for good reason.Well you're clearly looking for negatives without being prepared to accept positives. If you're not prepared to give the leader a chance find something else to do with your time. It's not your party.
I understand that logic, and I was genuinely the same for the majority of my life and I'll probably still put my cross in the Labour box until we get a PR system of voting, but I won't put a penny into the party and I won't door knock for them.I also can't support any party that has brought Peter 'I will undermine Corbyn every single day and Epstein is a good guy' Mandelson back into the party.
Can't blame you for thinking like that Free-pint. But we cannot get into government without support, and for me, any kind of Labour Party, even a Blair one, is better that having a Tory government. So I support and continue paying my subs to a Labour Party that is far different to the one I became a member of all those years ago.
Blair had the chance to right the many wrongs of the Thatcher years-in fact he was given three chances. He carried on sh!itting on unemployed people, all stick and no carrot, (don't forget, the Tories had presided over the worst unemployment figures in British history and had reduced the help that the unemployed received, Blair carried on with this). He promised to re nationalise the utilities and trains- he did neither. He promised to build more local authority homes to replace the ones Thatcher had sold off-he didn't. He brought in PFI for public buildings, (think NHS), he introduced tuition fees and then increased them. Foodbanks came into being on his watch because people could not live off the amount of money they received in benefits.I understand that logic, and I was genuinely the same for the majority of my life and I'll probably still put my cross in the Labour box until we get a PR system of voting, but I won't put a penny into the party and I won't door knock for them.
Something that was interesting was when Keith was doing his little 'why people won't vote labour' tour last week, quite a few of them gave the answer that it was to do with Blairs years and the Iraq war. Not sure how that turned them Tory like, but they may have gone Green etc
I'm not saying he's going to win an election I'm saying I'll support him in his attempts to do so. Just like I did with JC, Ed and GB.I like you as a poster Borofur but I think that you're kidding yourself if you think that Starmer is going to win an election. And that is entirely up to you of course. I simply can't do it. But you were right before. I do keep saying that I'm going to stay away from these threads so that's all that I have to say. All the best to you fella. I'll see you on the Friday night booze thread.I'm not saying he's going to win an election I'm saying I'll support him in his attempts to do so. Starmer was voted in by the membership, the PLP, the unions and the NEC. He beat the continuity Corbyn candidate RLB.
Every candidate had a chance but Starmer won. I'll support him until he's no longer the leader, then I'll support the next leader whoever that is.
I'm not politically sophisticated, this is just how I am.
Yes you will mateAnd that is entirely up to you of course. I simply can't do it. But you were right before. I do keep saying that I'm going to stay away from these threads so that's all that I have to say. All the best to you fella. I'll see you on the Friday night booze thread.
There is always a place for a left wing party, the only problem is that they never win 5% of the vote. The UK population do not want it. the left on here have slaughtered the poor after the Brexit vote calling them anything from Racist, uneducated to Gammons. Why should they want to vote left?Demand? Desire? Call? Purpose? Audience?
Trade Union membership has increased 4 years in a row in the UK. Nationalising rail and utilities always poll majority support even among tory voters.
I think there's room in the UK for a good left wing parliamentary party.
If you're not prepared to give the leader a chance find something else to do with your time. It's not your party.
How? What was so right? But you have to say, on reflection, they were right.
And yet again we get a rewrite of history to position "the left" as the thing we don't want.the left on here have slaughtered the poor after the Brexit vote calling them anything from Racist, uneducated to Gammons. Why should they want to vote left?
Pointless arguing with them mate. I usually don't bother because it always ends the same way. None so blind etc. etc. How? What was so right?
Why did the EHRC AS report exonerate JC?
Why has the Forde Report not been released?
Why were the AS 'whistleblowers' settled with out of court against the Labour Party's lawyers advice?
And yet again we get a rewrite of history to position "the left" as the thing we don't want.
It was the FBPE Centrists that did those things. The left were busy fighting for Brexit - with Jeremy Corbyn at the forefront. Which is why the FBPE lot couldn't vote Labour at the last election.
It's amazing how the collective memory shifts to suit the prevailing narrative.
You're confronted with the fact that people like Lefty posts sense and reason
Sorry boss. Sometimes I just can't help myself.Keep it civil folks (that means you, MFP).
You've answered your own question there. What kind of a business strategy is is to cut off your main revenue stream (the membership and unions) and not have another in place? Madness.Rereading the thread this morning, there's been almost no discussion of the info in the OP.
It is very surprising to me that the party's reserves have gotten so low so quickly. Where's all the money gone? The party reportedly had a £13m reserve after the 2019 general election and you'd have thought there was hardly anything to spend money on since then with the pandemic and lockdown. 2020s elections were delayed and conference was a shorter, video conf thing instead of the usual.
I've read elsewhere the memberships dropped from something like 600k to 450k. I suppose losing a big chunk of revenue like that would hamper any business. It's still a large party membership though. You'd have thought that would be enough to fund things.
Sacking campaign staff and bringing in compliance temps... it doesn't fill you with confidence that they're focused on elections really does it?
