Labour Party purge/staff cuts.

Labour is purging its membership of what it calls extreme left wing groups and individuals, including jewish members who have voiced support for Palestine.
As it stands, the party coffers are almost empty (down to one month's payroll according to LabourLIst) due to the drop in membership since Starmer took over. To address this they are making large scale redundancies of up to 90 staff.

However, in other news they are advertising for 30-50 temporary investigation officers to snoop on members for even more purging.

Genuine question: Where do Labour go from here? Break off into another party?

It's a mess when they should miles ahead of the Tories

It will depend how this is carried out in practice, but Starmer is absolutely right to get some of these far left groups and individuals out.
Whilst not releasing the Forde report, and paying those who were shown to have worked against the party and been massively racist? It's really not a good look. He was electing to 'unite the party'.

You can't unite the far left, they only care that you aren't left enough. They would rather the Tories - even this current far right lot ffs! - were in power than compromise and accept the vast majority of people of this country are not far left, but sensibly moderate.

That's utter b***ks. Sorry, but it is.

If you're talking about actual far-left like Class War, they aren't joining the Labour Party anytime soon. The groups he's kicked out like Socialist Appeal are literally just socialist, which the Labour Party should be. Coyne trying to kick out JVL, because in the words of those who agree with him 'are the wrong type of Jew..'.

All whilst leaving genuine racists in the party and those who LITERALLY FOUGHT AGAINST THE PARTY. It's just baffling.

Simple people like me - uncomplicated always voted Labour because they were for the many not the few and appealed to my Christian social Democrat principles are simply baffled by the in party fighting. Momentum - Trade Unions - Class War just factions splintering, dividing and undermining the simple Labour Party I have always supported and are clearly and I think purposely working against the only priority the country needs - a credible opposition to get this horrendous government out. Labour are becoming a party comfortable in the role of opposition. I’m not sure anyone can unite the potential Labour vote as whilst the fought each other the nasty party hoovered up the lost and simple people with populist lies that they bought hook line and sinker. All desperately sad as we remain governed by a right wing group of privileged toffs.

I've supported every Labour leader since my teenage years.

Labour would be much more effective in opposition if all left leaning folk did likewise.
Bit hard when they're being purged from the party..

Don't forget and I will continue to shout this the right of the party DID NOT support the party when Corbyn was in charge. They actively campaigned against the party daily.

I also can't support any party that has brought Peter 'I will undermine Corbyn every single day and Epstein is a good guy' Mandelson back into the party.

The right of the party must accept it's a broad church, there should always be a place around the table for the far left.

The outrageous accusations from the right wing under Corbyn undermined the party and if they're now looking to purge those who aren't in the 'Friends of Israel' group, which includes many Jewish members, then they're going to devastate the party completely.

Absolutely your perogative free_pint and I certainly respect that decision however that attitude will never rid us of the Tories.
