Jimmy has long been a favourite of mine. I first came across him at a Jazz club ball at Redcar. He was in the small ball room and I think it was Chris Farlow in the main ball room. The small b.r. was rammed - you could hardly move. Jimmy was terrific and the band were very good really driving it all along

and the main b.r. was by comparison empty as the big artist was having a bit of trouble remaining vertical from what I recollect

date mid 60s - 66 / 67 / at a guess. Loved him ever since

Last time I saw him was at Manning's club in Middleton must have been early 90s - no vagabonds this time. Not as jump up and go music. I was probably grateful for that as A.D. starting to catch up with me by then
