Fujifilm - More good news for Teesside (Billingham)

Please explain further.

If it's not negative, surely it must be positive...

What is "next to no news" exactly?
Why is £600m the headline figure in the local rag, when £4m is being invested?

Why the need for further research into what is really being spent in the area, surely a newspaper should provide that, unless it has a reason not to?

I am not a Tory, consider myself as a green/liberal/socialist. Hope my original thread was positive.

To the posters saying it is not positive news - are you saying its repeated news? or its made up news?

Nobody is saying it’s negative news. They’re saying it’s next to no news. It’s spin. Don’t conflate negativity with critical thinking.
I am not, I am merely pointing out it is a good news story.

I have no doubt Mr Mayor is jumping on the political bandwagon, any politician of any colour would do just that and use it for their own projection though, that’s what they do as I am sure you know. The politics of it is not the real story. The real story is about a Japanese company investing in a local business that creates jobs in the local economy.

£4M investment in most areas would not be seen as a ‘next to no news’ story. Anything that creates jobs is positive, it will have a knock on effect for businesses close by too. I applaud Fujifilm for their investment and continued faith in its Billingham factory.

I'm all for positive news but even the spin from Coluka is over the top, talking about jobs for the area.

£4m invested in the pharma sector isn't a great deal and may simply be a replacement piece of kit being imported from the Far East.

Who knows? Well the reporter could ask the company and let us know.

My criticism hasn't been about the investment, it's about the reporting.

Maybe closing my eyes to the propaganda, as SAB suggests, is the way to go. I'd be in good company.

Exactly the point and why it's 'next to no news'.

We are saying the things we’ve said in the thread! Not sure what other way there is to put it.
No you and others (just like the mayor) are seeking to use it as a political football.

As a fellow Labour voter, I am sick of the negativity and whinging, no matter how ‘polite‘ some might try to portray it and sneer at good news just because it is under a tory watch. If there is public subsidy, so what? That is exactly what we on this board were rightly crying out for during the steel plant crisis for goodness sake.

I want this government out asap. However, I am beginning to understand why some seem to think the Labour party has been highjacked to a degree by middle class, wealthy, virtue signalers who seem to take delight in knocking good news and seek to spin it themselves, not everything this or any government does or has done is bad.

Constant negativity does nothing to enhance Labours standing Imho. People are fed up with negativity, constant knocking, moaning and whinging. Ordinary people are bothered about the here and now, their personal families, their job security etc. In real life I prefer to stay away from negative people where i can, they have a problem for every solution out there.

So criticism of deception is negativity?

Firstly you’re making an assumption about who I have or will vote for. Secondly, thinking critically about something rather than be blindly optimistic is not using something as a political football. The summary of what you’re saying is that people should just accept whatever tripe is served up as positive news and not question it because to do so would be ‘negativity’ and ‘moaning’. It’s absolute b***ks frankly.

The rest of your post about wealthy, virtue signalling is just too pathetic to respond to. It’s beneath you.

So criticism of deception is negativity?
Criticism is criticism, it is fine if it is accompanied by a solution, but if it isn’t, well that tells its own story.

By all means if you think Fujifilm are deceiving the people of Billingham by investing £4M into its local business, then I would love to hear why. I think It clearly helps protect the jobs that are there already. The investment will create work in construction, increased staffing and will have some knock on effect by some increased spending locally. How is their investment deceiving the local residents and the companies workers exactly, or is it the Mayor you are really referring to? If so I think i covered that point at #24

Do you welcome Fujifilms investment or would you rather they spent their £4M elsewhere?

I'm pretty sure he meant the £600 Million lie was deceiving people.

There you go again. I said i could see why ‘some people’ thought that, you are assuming I do!

Exactly. Once you boil it down to £4m and you don’t even know what that’s for you the story begins to unravel a bit. But apparently it’s not enough to offer a critical view and to question the journalistic merit of the article we also now have to come up with a solution as well. That’s the price of entry to the debate, otherwise you just have to accept it and be stupidly positive about it. Rara.

There you go again. I said i could see why ‘some people’ thought that, you are assuming I do!

I’m not assuming anything. You knew precisely what you were writing. You said it would be understandable for ‘some people’ to reach those conclusions based on some criticism of this article and so I stand by what I posted.

Ben Houchen has hailed it as game changing. Im happy for the investment but why is everything always a game changer with him? How does this change the game
Ben is a bit of an attention seeker but perhaps the game changer lingo is in the global impact of the investment...who knows
