I do not know the full extent of all the EU proposals or what Frost is asking for exactly to accurately judge. I personally have no problem aligning with the current EU standards on goods of animal and plant origin which appears one of the biggest issues. The medicine issue that has been offered up by the EU is positive and welcomed. However, on food of animal and plant origin, if we wish to raise our standards in some way, we should be free to do so and vice versa the EU, standards should never drop, however that will result in another issue if either party would not agree to follow suit. There would need an independently agreed mechanism for resolving issues down the line. We should not have a situation where we are somehow bound by EU law nor the EU by UK law, only by agreed treaty.
I do cynically suspect the Government may have backed themselves in a corner with the NI situation on one hand and trade deals they have signed or want to sign on the other and if that is the case, they must put Northern Ireland and the peace treaty first and if that stops a USA trade deal, or any other they need to take the consequences. I understand why the EU have lost trust in the Government, many reasonable people who live here have as well.
