When will I be able to stop using both boards?

I do love the new board but when can I actually start using it properly? It seems like the traffic is still way higher on the old one?

Rob said this on the old board not that long ago....

"Probably looking to close this down in a couple of months and try and keep it as read only."

Probably for the same reason you are?
There needs to be a tipping point. When the traffic on here is greater than the traffic on the other board it will become easy. The challenge for admin is to make that happen in the way and time that they want to.

So far, the decision has been to try to do things slowly. So we are probably going backwards in terms of daily traffic on here now. As the new features do not outweigh the rate of content production on the old site.

It is up to Rob and Borolad to try to find a way of making more content generation happen here. In the time scale that they want to see. My guess is that it may not be easy for them.

Fair enough. So basically I should start a few controversial political threads and watch the traffic pile up on here, so we can do away with the old board quicker?

Or resurrect on here some other themes for threads from some time ago on the old board. Ones that were popular, to try to get people posting more on here.

When people join there is the novelty of it being a better environment. However content is king.

It’s interaction. Personally I don’t think you can tip it the other way, because of habit etc, so the only way it will happen is to give a definitive date in the future of shut down of the Old Board and then people will be forced to migrate?

Agree. Mate posts on the old board still and says can’t be bothered to move over until it shuts. Inertia rules.

Have to say I think I agree with this. Otherwise we could just find everyone logged into two boards but mainly posting on the old one out of habit cos no one will make the jump.

I voluntarily might make an official announcement that I am only posting on here from now on, and see if anyone follows suit.

The problem is people may rejoice at the news and stay on the old board purely for that reason :)

This is all about whether you use sticks or carrots. The best way to start with is to use the carrot, not the stick.

I agree 100% that they will have to give a definitive date at some point. However the level of planning required to be able to do that and stick to the date is not something they can do at present (in my opinion).

If they miss the date they will get crucified for not hitting it. It is too early for that. Better the type of woolly statement Rob has made already.

I feel that the right approach now is for admin to take measures to try to promote use of their board. Create new threads (or get people to do them). Have some silly prizes for getting 100 post threads. Think of other ways of encouraging content creation. Or encourage people to do what atypical just wrote while I was writing this.

So you did it. Let's see how it goes. Interesting.

And there you have a response which in effect says they won’t move until the old board shuts down.
We are only disagreeing on timing. I agree 100% that there will have to be a close down date announced at some point. To force people across. However, I feel that, at present, the "management" are not able to announce a date that they are confident to hit. Better to do some planning, see whether they are on track and then announce a close down date. Rather than just plucking a date out of the air and hoping.

I’m not saying they should do that. What I am saying is until they feel comfortable in announcing a date you are going to have people continuing with their habit of staying where they are.
