I tried to stop using the old board but this board isn't as vibrant yet so found myself posting on there quite a bit too.
Rob said this on the old board not that long ago....I do love the new board but when can I actually start using it properly? It seems like the traffic is still way higher on the old one?
Oh I see, a while off then.Rob said this on the old board not that long ago....
"Probably looking to close this down in a couple of months and try and keep it as read only."
Probably for the same reason you are?Oh I see, a while off then.
The thing is though, why are most people still using the old board?
There needs to be a tipping point. When the traffic on here is greater than the traffic on the other board it will become easy. The challenge for admin is to make that happen in the way and time that they want to.Probably for the same reason you are?
I'm not really, not been on since mid last week nowProbably for the same reason you are?
Fair enough. So basically I should start a few controversial political threads and watch the traffic pile up on here, so we can do away with the old board quicker? There needs to be a tipping point. So far, the decision has been to try to do things slowly. So we are probably going backwards in terms of daily traffic on here now. As the new features do not outweigh the rate of content production on the old site.
It is up to Rob and Borolad to try to find a way of making more content generation happen here. In the time scale that they want to see. My guess is that it may not be easy for them.
Or resurrect on here some other themes for threads from some time ago on the old board. Ones that were popular, to try to get people posting more on here.Fair enough. It’s interaction. Personally I don’t think you can tip it the other way, because of habit etc, so the only way it will happen is to give a definitive date in the future of shut down of the Old Board and then people will be forced to migrate?
Have to say I think I agree with this. Otherwise we could just find everyone logged into two boards but mainly posting on the old one out of habit cos no one will make the jump. It’s interaction. This is all about whether you use sticks or carrots. The best way to start with is to use the carrot, not the stick. It’s interaction. As you say, agree to disagree. It feels like a threat to me but not to you. No problem, we all can have different views on stuff.Spanishman. Agree to disagree then. It’s not really a stick is it. See it as an incentive.
So you did it. Let's see how it goes. Interesting.Have to say I think I agree with this. Otherwise we could just find everyone logged into two boards but mainly posting on the old one out of habit cos no one will make the jump.
I voluntarily might make an official announcement that I am only posting on here from now on, and see if anyone follows suit.
The problem is people may rejoice at the news and stay on the old board purely for that reason
And there you have a response which in effect says they won’t move until the old board shuts down.So you did it. Let's see how it goes. Interesting.

We are only disagreeing on timing. I agree 100% that there will have to be a close down date announced at some point. To force people across. However, I feel that, at present, the "management" are not able to announce a date that they are confident to hit. Better to do some planning, see whether they are on track and then announce a close down date. Rather than just plucking a date out of the air and hoping. And there you have a response which in effect says they won’t move until the old board shuts down.
I’m not saying they should do that. What I am saying is until they feel comfortable in announcing a date you are going to have people continuing with their habit of staying where they are.We are only disagreeing on timing. Sorry, my mistake. I misunderstood.I’m not saying they should do that. What I am saying is until they feel comfortable in announcing a date you are going to have people continuing with their habit of staying where they are.
