Wow. Latest Hartlepool polling...

I totally get what you are saying but it all can't be heaped on to pensioners. For Brexit to have happened, a lot of younger people also had to be taken in by these lies.

True, but Brexit and 2017 and 2019 were carried by pensioners votes.

As above, I'm not saying they shouldn't vote - I'm just pointing out that they vote differently from working age people and this is, imho, down to the privileges they have. These privileges have obviously been earned from a life of work - but they do differentiate their priorities from working age people.

No 57% of those eligible to vote voted leave, 30% of those eligible to vote didn't, he also represents all those who were under the voting age or not eligible to vote.
He didn't try and overturn it

You clearly don't understand how voting works.

If 30% did not vote, that's on them.

I bet if it was the reverse and Remain had won you would not be talking about people who did not vote or were too young to vote.

People like you made it difficult for those of us who got on the doorsteps and campaigned, you could never bring yourself accepted we lost. Therefore Brexit was not "done" to these people and they felt they had to vote Tory to ensure it could not be overturned.

Quite frankly, I couldn't, and still can't be bothered arguing again with you on an internet message board, about who is the least **** between Labour and the Tories. It possible for someone to have a different opinion to yours.

Have a good day, and take a deep breath. Maybe go for a walk when the rain stops (y)
And its this sort of attitude that shows you up as the Tory that you are. I didn't come to you with opinion I showed you facts. You couldn't argue against it, so rather than admit it and show yourself as a Tory you ignored it.

To then make silly remarks about taking a deep breath and going for a walk only serves to again show you up as unable to back up your points and try to deflect with childish responses.

Labour’s man, Paul Williams, was born in Canterbury, educated in Cambridgeshire, worked in Stockton-on-Tees where he was an MP 2017-19,
A former magistrate describes the main candidates: “One [Mortimer] is north Yorkshire and the other one [Williams] was the MP for Stockton."
"Educated in Cambridgeshire" at a comprehensive. "worked in Stockton-on-Tees" as a GP, also worked in Hartlepool at the hospital during the pandemic.
Mortimer is farmer from Thirsk c.30 miles away and has spent more time in the Cayman Islands than Hartlepool, which in her own words she'd hardly visited before being selected as the Conservative Party candidate.

I can see why the people of Hartlepool feel such an affinity for the local Mortimer compared to the remote Williams.

And yet I have heard on this forum think the 2019 red wall losses were all simply just ”Brexit votes” which will be easy for Starmer/Labour to win back. I don’t think so somehow.

These losses broke the “farmyard animal in a red rosette will get in ” tradition in lots of places, not just in the North but also Wales and other areas. And that tradition won’t come back for at least a generation.

What is to the Tories’ advantage is that the “farmyard animal in a blue rosette will get in” mentality in areas of the South hasn’t been touched at all by Brexit. Strengthened if anything,

I accepted it on day one, pointless to do otherwise, but let's not pretend 57% of his constituents wanted brexit.

After reading that article and the comments on here, if you were part of the Labour 'think tank' what would you do to improve the parties image in the North East?

At present there are many towns in the area thinking the same as Hartlepool.
That’s a good question.

I think the best thing Starmer could do is have some north east Labour MPs in prominent positions within the party like we had during the Tony Blair era.

But you know just because people turn to Brexit or Boris Johnson because they are desperate does not mean they are now settled or happy with the way things are, at some point the Tories will have to deliver something for them.

Tories could put a plate of sausages up and it would beat Labour in Hartlepool
It 'got Brexit done' , and as mentioned some of the elder voters pine for an England that was around when they were younger
They got their pension at 60 , while younger people will have to work until 67 - even people just turned 60 won't get it yet

I was amazed Labour held Hartlepool in 2019

You need to think about how you come across as a patriotic socialist.

Unless you can provide more accurate figures, those are the ones I will go with.
Well if the 30% that were eligible to vote and didn't vote wanted brexit they would have voted brexit?
I would say people wrongly posting 52 % of the UK voted leave when it was around 26% don't understand how voting works.

You don’t understand voting jam. People who didn’t turn up fall under abstain. Are you saying all referundums should be invalid unless there is a 100% turnout.

leave won the referendum, no good banging on it only represented a smaller proportion, sounds like sour grapes

We lost, get over it.
