Once again people seem to want to try and absolve Warnock of any involvement in the signing of Akpom. It doesn't seem to matter that he himself said the recruitment had recommended and pushed for a particular defender last summer but Warnock didn't want him so they didn't do it.
"I'm delighted to finally have got him. He's been my number one choice. I've wanted him for a long time. I'd like to give a big thanks to Neil Bausor (chief executive) for getting it done.
I told him what we were doing at the club, and right from day one, he wanted to come, and I'm delighted."
That is what Warnock said when Akpom was presented to the media. If he didn't want him he wouldn't have signed him, just like the defender suggested to him by the recruitment staff. Warnock himself decided to try and absolve himself not so long back before having to correct his statement in the Gazette.
I think the chairman should be asking questions about why players on good contracts, signed at considerable expense during a pandemic in which the club lost an awful lot of money, are being left out of squads. And if he doesn't think Akpom is good enough then would you really trust him to bring in two or three better strikers in the summer? I'm not sure I would,TBH.
