Goalscrounger's 30 Day Music Challenge - Day 9 - Tuesday 14th April - A Song Not In English

It has been said that Rachid Taha met the Clash in Paris 1981. He claims he gave them a tape of his music and this was one of the tracks. How much truth is in it i don't know.

I don't believe the tale unfolded like that, Topper wrote and has the credits for 'rock the casbah' - what Rachid is saying, as he loves Strummer and the clash, is the tape he gave them, in Paris, 'inspired' the writing and development of rock the casbah, his never claimed that they purloined it, or that they 'bridged' it - just that the sound his band were making in Lyon influenced them - in fact his absolutely chuffed about it, and so he should be.

So, even though it is two Italian singers and it's based on Verdi's magnificent Chorus Of The Hebrew Slaves from Nabucco, (which is just as fantastic with a full choir), half of it is sung in English, but I thought I'd post this here in case anyone hasn't come across it before. The big lad had a decent voice.
