How can a Vaccine be safe for a 30 year old, but not a 29 year old?

I'm 32.... so I've lost all confidence now in AZ.... when it gets offered

BBC: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-56665517

Under-30s in the UK are to be offered an alternative Covid vaccine to the AstraZeneca jab due to the evidence linking it to rare blood clots.

The recommendation comes after a review by the UK drugs regulator found that by the end of March 79 people had suffered rare blood clots after vaccination - 19 of whom had died.

Did you get a chance to listen to the briefing about this today and they were asked this specific question of where it leaves 31 year olds having to make the decision about the AZ vaccine?

Didn't they say its up to them to outweigh the benefits / risks?

Its all OK saying that 18 million people have been injected with AZ vaccine and there have been very few cases. Most of those injections ahve been to people over 60.

The problem it seems is with younger generations. How many of those have been injected with AZ vaccine? Not many in comparison. The risk is that, as more and more under healthy under 50's are injected so more and more cases arise

Then I think you are pathetic.
People like you will perpetuate this virus.
You are at higher risk of being run over by a car..... will you stop walking in the street?
Same could be said about his/her chances of dying from Covid.

Who are you to call him pathetic? It's perfectly acceptable and natural to have doubts about the az vaccine given what's been reported recently.

A little bit harsh to call someone pathetic...

I never said I wouldn't have a vaccine, I said I wasn't confident in AZ

Not quite they said the benefits outweigh the risk for the 30 to 40 year olds but with the caveat that they are constantly evaluating all data. Not sure what I would do in your Situation I am 51 and had the AZ vaccine a couple of weeks ago. Maybe look at the the advise of the USA and Euro zone and maybe that will help you make a more informed decision.

not an easy choice to make but I would personally have the AZ in your situation if offered but I would never criticise your choice either way if you don’t feel comfortable with the situation you find yourself in.

Ive had the AZ vaccine. It makes me want to rip the shirt from my body, reveal the letter S and fly.

Well not quite but put it into perspective I know of noone who has taken this vaccine and had anything untoward. The odd one has had a headache the morning after. I do know however people who have died from Covid including a relative sadly. I wouldnt hesitate. The risk to consider isn’t in the vaccine.

Bang on, same here.

It’s a balance off between the benefit of having the vaccine vs the severity of the illness vs the risk of complications

Over 30 your risk of severe COVID goes up quite a bit yet the complications in comparison are low... so it’s beneficial to have it.

under 30 you are less likely to have severe COVID that would require hospital treatment so it’s not as beneficial to have the vaccine due to the small increase in chances of complications

Or that’s how I understood it from the news

How can any vaccine be declared safe after a few months of trial ? Isn’t if officially a trial vaccine till 2023 🤔 the FDA in America haven’t given it their approval and it’s on an emergency license (i think)

AZ is not (yet) approved at all here - all the others are on emergency license.

They are all safe.

do you or have you ever flown ? If so that was a DVT blood clot risk far higher than this vaccine

“While there’s some debate as to the connection, some studies have found evidence that the prevalence of DVT within 48 hours of flying on a plane is 2 to 10 percent. That’s the same rate that people in hospitals develop DVT. Staying in a hospital is another risk factor for DVT.”

so will you never fly again.

All i'm saying is it was 30 people the other day.... now it's 79, what will it be tomorrow or next week?

At the moment I have lost faith in AZ, I will consider taking another vaccine

If it's not good enough for under 30s... it's not OK for me

You do know there are deaths linked to Pfizer as well then.
