Craig Hignett on Karanka bust up

Yet when Man Utd beat us 2-1 with a late winner on New Year's Eve one season Karanka could be seen hanging out of Mourinho's **** after the game.

Karanka certainly didn't practice what he preached.

Hignett looked like he was having a right laugh at Aitor's expense with the Blackburn lads, he didn't look bothered about the foul on Dimi after.

He should have stuck with Colin Cooper at Hartlepool, they look like they were on to a good thing there.

Hignett went on to manage a total of 86 games with Hartlepool,
Karanka went on to manager 147 games with Middlesbrough (including a promotion) 52 games at Nottingham Forrest and 38 games at Birmingham

I always thought Hignett was a good coach for us, we played some real good attacking football when he was involved. Whats he doing now? He wouldn't have been a bad person to have involved under Woodgate.

He did well at Hartlepool too, and his sacking was a bit out of the blue, but there was clearly a lot going on behind the scenes.

That doesnt make Karanka any less of a tvvat, he should have been fired after the bust up prior to the Charlton game

Robbie Keane was a really bizarre choice. Steve Round & Liam Rosenior would have been great additions to our set up

Was Higgy a “Gibson gift” like Downing? Even Victor Orta was Gibson’s idea.

Even if Higgy didn’t want to say sorry, he could have said can we talk about yesterday? Got the communication following.

I posted about this a while ago, Higgy had done a similar podcast and the phrase 'I should have punched him' was definitely used. An interesting debate ensued about who would win in a fight between Aitor and Higgy.

5ft 9in wiry Scouser vs the 5ft 11in brooding Basque

Craig Hignett - he's a bit of a blag, I should have hit him. sounds like he was too much of a fanny
Aitor Karanka - moody and shouty, but can come up with the goods when it gets down and dirty

it's a tough call, but i'm going for Aitor Karanka on this one. top drawer defender in his playing days will have been knocked around a bit and with an attitude like his has, he will have duked up to keep his nose straight.
Craig Hignett, the tricky winger, might have thrown a few punches in the gym and played the part.. but too nice to get in any real bother.. gift of the gab, jokes his way out of trouble.

Decent summary. I sense that Higgy is more working class, probably knows a few dirtier tricks though.

That's what I thought as well, you can't have it both ways.

Think he'll regret using the phrase 'I should have punched him', what future employee would want to hire someone who thinks the best way to settle a disagreement in a professional environment is to assault them.

Hahaha Brilliant 😜

Funny you mention Downing, he was on Mark Schwarzer's podcast almost saying the same sort of thing, in that Aitor just turned on him randomly so I don't know what to believe as there's always 2 sides to ever story.

The only common denominator is that neither were chosen or seemed to be wanted by Karanka, so with that in mind it would be quite interesting to hear what Rhodes thought of Karanka.

Higgy sort of winds me up now anyway......... too many jobs for the boys at Boro and he's proven he's not a good coach since he left. Move on shut up and keep focussing on your commentary career!

It's been mentioned earlier that he would have been a great foil with Woodgate I mean both hate Karanka so I suppose that would have been a good start, but agreed would miles better than golf playing exhibition match playing Robbie Keane.

both professional footballers all of their adult life.. they'll be soft as f**k it's gonna come down to who gets the first dig in and who take a couple on the chin.
karanka is the unpredictable one.. he'll just explode. higgy will be windmilling and effin and jeffin, karanka I imagine would be straight down to business, ruthless with machine like efficiency.

We will never know the truth about these things but it is clear over the years certain people and players have been brought in to keep the board happy and the managers haven't wanted them.
