Ched Evans

Christ. I know the circumstances at the moment aren't ideal at the club .. like at any club for that matter right now, but for the likes of us, if Ched Evans comes here and will be among the 'main' targets, I am giving up any remaining hope I had that we may get into the top six next season. If he came in as backup, perhaps a third choice forward, I wouldn't be ar5ed.

I trust NW but if Evans' name is in our starting 11 come first game for 21/22, I'll think of something else to do on Saturday afternoons, like watching paint dry or something like that. I'm sure NW will have us safe and sound mid-table, sounds thrilling.

I'm not sure what that adds?

Jessica Ennis can decide she doesn't want to be associated with someone/something as she chooses.

She doesn't have to apologise for her decisions.
Im not interested who apologises to who about what.
It is an article written about the myths and journalistic omissions which fueled popular misconceptions.
Its been chewed over enough.
If he does come to the Boro and wears the shirt I will support him on the pitch like any other player.

So why didn't he appeal against wrongful conviction then (or more to the point, why wasn't he allowed)?

His appeal was on the grounds of new evidence.

I'm not suggesting the new evidence was flawed or that what Evans did was rape (given the new evidence). However, the original conviction was considered sound, at the time.
You can appeal against ANY conviction. Go read the original trial transcripts and actually review the evidence.

He appealed and the appeal was dismissed. I accept I worded it badly but the point remains:

It was ONLY the submission of new evidence that brought a retrial.

Scote you really need to go and read the original trial transcripts and you will see why it was a bad conviction and a bad proceeding for the CPS to bring. I am watching footie now, so done with this thread.

So what you're saying is that the original trial judge allowed a miscarriage of justice and that an appeal judge, on reading the same documents you've read, came to the same conclusion as the first judge and perpetuated this miscarriage?

Only when new evidence emerged and a retrial took place - based on the new evidence which hadn't been previously avaiable - was this miscarriage identified and somehow this didn't make the morning papers?

Can you just confirm I've understood correctly.

These stories depress me.
We got rid of Patrick Bamford and kept Rudy Gestede.
Wasted millions on players that struggled to reach the play offs.
I really don't want to know how much Garry Monk put in his pocket.
We opened up the club's wallet and said to him please help yourself.
So he did.
Now we are looking at Ched Evans on a free.
The sad thing is I think he will improve the squad if we can afford him.

That last line is depressing. Im not sure I agree with it but the fact that some are saying that the addition of player like Ched Evans would improve our squad really does bookmark where we are as a team. A few short weeks ago there were a number on here confident we were heading for the playoffs. Just roll forward a few games and Evans is now seen as a better option. 😞

If we sign Ched Evans I won't be following or supporting this football club in anyway.
Why? He's innocent. The only thing he's 'guilty' of is having a 3 sum and cheating on his girlfriend.

If you don't sign footballers who cheat or have low morals then you'd struggle to sign anyone. He clearly comes with baggage but it's not like signing Adam Johnson.

No you haven't understood Scrote.

The first judge didn't perpetuate a miscarriage of justice, that is the domain of the jury, not the judge.

I believe that the appeal was slow at happening because whilst you can appeal the sentence with no real reason, you shouldn't appeal a verdict unless you have grounds to do so. The grounds for the appeal would have been inneffective counsel but for whateverr reason Evans decided not to do that.

At no point did I use the term miscarriage of justice. The jury got it wrong, I assume in an honest attempt to get to the truth. There was never the evidence to convict Evans of rape. His behaviour whilst repellant wasn't criminal.

The entire prosecution rested on no consent or anything that could be taken as inferred consent. Whilst this is one of the proofs in a rape, it is a fairly big grey area because inferred consent can be given in multiple ways, a nod of the head, a wink, allowing someone to buy you a drink.

There was an absence of inferred consent because the woman in the case was drunk and couldn't remember. That doesn't mena there was no inferred or even direct consent.
