John Prine hospitalised with Covid19 symptoms.

Had tickets to see him in Edinburgh in February, was called off as he was ill then too. Poor fella.

Saw him in 2015, lovely evening it was.

Sam Stone, moving song.

This remains a brilliant song.

Sure is a beauty!

Got introduced to JP(and many more) by a guy i worked for on the fairground in the mid 80s. He was born in Middlesbrough, childhood in Alabama then back to Boro/Scarboro,one of many great artists i got to enjoy from his excellent vinyl collection.

edit; just enjoyed nearly 2 hrs of JP after playing the above link and letting it roll, while checking out various book recs on the other thread, delightful!

To make up for the cancelled gigs, only a year ago from the lovely people at NPR Tiny Music Desk Concerts.

John Prine unfortunately died on April 7th

John Prine, who for five decades wrote rich, plain-spoken songs that chronicled the struggles and stories of everyday working people and changed the face of modern American roots music, died Tuesday April 7 at Nashville's Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was 73. The cause was complications related to Covid-19, his family confirmed to Rolling Stone.

Prine, who left behind an extraordinary body of folk-country classics, was hospitalized last month after the sudden onset of Covid-19 symptoms, and was placed in intensive care for 13 days. Prine's wife and manager, Fiona, announced on March 17 that she had tested positive for the virus after they had returned from a European tour.

Here is a nice duet with Iris DeMent

Fish and whistle, Whistle and fish
Eat evr'ything that's put on your dish
If we get through this, make a big wish
That we don't do this again

RIP JP
