Hospitality Fights Back

Still find it incredible that someone at the highest level of government thought the substantial meals and curfew rules would work. Just shows how out of touch they are and detached from reality at every single level.
I said from the beginning that restrictions on time were mental. If you are trying to reduce social interaction they should have been open longer. It pretty much forced all working age people who wanted a pint to go between 1800-2130.

Yes yes! As said on Page 1 of this thread!!!

Evidence based scientific decision making- what a novel idea! I hope the government are continually held to account over their awful decisions.

The meal thing is a Thick of it sketch, dreamt up in the back of someone's car.

I do wish taxpayers weren't fronting the costs though as I expect a lot more to come.

Sacha has has stated any court costs will be donated to two charities in based in Manchester, I forget the names of them now. Hopefully this is the start of the government been held to account for a multitude of different dictate and rulings.

I did see that- really good precedent to set for business as they jump on this first ruling.

I do hope the government will be help to account, and use this to push on with building/ funding the science to assist in decision making. I think the sooner they push money into studying real world transmission of the virus the sooner you will be able to make more informed decision on spread. Theoretically people being in a close enclosed space is likely to increase risk of transmission- the variables that influence that need to be much clearer- e.g air circulation, age, proximity, time of day, alcohol gel use, masking/ mask types etc.

There is some good info coming out of household studies, but that is not easy to extrapolate to a quick walk round a shop or 1 hour in a coffee shop.

Is a pub/ restaurant/ hairdresser/ masseuse/ board meeting/ supermarket trip/ day at school more likely to increase transmission- I would suggest so, but how much and are the restrictions proportionate across all of these activities? I don't think so.

"The meal thing is a Thick of it sketch, dreamt up in the back of someone's car."

Especially the whole "Is a Scotch Egg a substantial meal?" fiasco - that was straight out of the Thick of It.
I would say me are governed by donkeys, but that is very unkind to donkeys........

We have the same kind of thing here - you have to order "food" with a drink. The local brewery sells you a bag of crisps for $1. My son-in-law went for a beer the other day and asked what the cheapest thing on the menu was. They had a plate of chips for 50¢ and then asked him if he actually wanted the chips.....

Stripping the bathroom walls and ceiling back to plaster and resealing silicone joints and redecorating.

How many months have those been next months lockdown chores?

I’ve apparently been overhauling my garden since last April, I’ve built a raised bed and moved my blueberry plants to the other side of the garden so far. 🙈

Thougb apparently next month I’m being bought a fire pit as a treat from the Mrs so there’s that.

It'll be the second time in 12 months I've resealed the bath. 🥺

Haha, you lucky man! 😁

(I shouldn’t comment though, as I started removing woodchip wallpaper from my place years ago. Note that I used the word started, but not the word finished ...... 😐)

Obviously there is a profit/jobs consideration but putting that to one side what‘s the general view in hospitality about the virus?

Do you think it would be safe to re-open in April?

There's no evidence it makes any difference closing hospitality.

It's the crux of the entire argument.
