Just drove past a packed Preston Park

Without police state repression - as I said from the beginning.
That's a silly and over the top statement. There are people on here who have managed to follow all the laws set out, consistently. Not because we are in a police state but BECAUSE IT'S THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

So, wait, you're saying you'd murder people if that wasn't policed?

There may be on this board, but in my experience, the majority of the population have not - consistently.

By asking the second question I don't think you get the concept of a police state - I mean a totalitarian state, with no restrictions on the level of policing.

So do you think the people should have any discretion in the matter? Or are they right to follow laws regardless of how intrusive they are?
We don't get to exercise discretion when it comes to following the law. That's not how society works.

Whether we agree with a law or not is completely irrelevant.

Both sides are never going to agree.

Let's just move on.

I wonder what the topic of argument will be come june/ July? 🤔
"I couldn't get in the pub because it was full, bloody hell"

"My favourite restaurant was booked out this weekend so had to make do with the co-op's fiver deal x2 and a crate of Carlsberg instead"

"Look at those 5,000 people in the 90,000 capacity, outdoors, Wembley Stadium watching the Euro 2020(1) Final, bloody superspreaders"

"We haven't been able to go on holiday this month as our kids are doing summer school over the holidays to catch up"

"Those pesky brexiteers"

That's a very small minority and I'd place a strong bet it's only those who are a part of a shielding household.
Everybody else on here will have broken one rule or bent one bit of guidance at least once these past 12 months.

Just because something is passed as law doesn't automatically mean it is fair and correct and beyond challenge. How the challenge is made is a different question, although mass non-compliance is a method which has been successful in the past.

If you don't live beside the seaside then you don't travel. If you live in the sticks and have to travel to the supermarket then you travel(or have your stuff delivered). The idea Is to stop people gathering in large numbers, and to stay in the area where they live to stop the 'potential' spread of the virus.

How far backing land is 'beside the seaside'? A mile back? Or only on the seafront? Or 2 miles back? Or, for example, the town boundaries of Redcar?

I don't live 'in the sticks' but my closest click n collect is 10 or 14 miles away. So is that local? Or should I go to my local CoOp which is 3 mins walk away? But I shop for my mum too and you can't get it all in the CoOp. So if I can't get a pick up at the 10 mile Tesco but get the 14 mile Tesco and by the time I have got my mum's shopping, delivered it and gone home I've done a 30 mile round trip is that local? And if it is can someone drive 10 miles to the Coast for local exercise?

@tripleheader I know what you are saying and as best as I can I have 'stayed local' but I am just showing how despite it initially seeming really simple to 'stay local' in reality when 'local' isn't defined it is down to interpretation. Personally I wouldn't dream of driving to the coast and going for a walk, I can walk in the streets near my house.

Those judging might do well to remember that they aren't the Covid Police - the rules / laws are there so people can make their own judgement calls. The public in the main are being sensible. I wouldn't be worried about outdoor gatherings and I don't think the Gov are either.

Be careful with the shopping stuff.

I was banned from here for a while because people complained that I was driving to Coulby Newham to feed my family instead of living in debt shopping at my local Co-Op. 🥺
This was during the Tier days but I didn't have any other choice.

It's either drive 10 or 14 miles or my mum (who is vulnerable and shielding) goes hungry.

Red rooster congratulations that's the funniest post I have read in weeks. Also the most ludicrous but it did make me laugh out loud.
Maybe the groups of people were not even cousins. I know the names of all mine and call them by their actual names. Think there is a bit of poetic license in your post.

Edit - Sorry, I don't quite know how that happened. I was browsing through the thread and watching TV at the same time and must have pressed 'reply' and 'post reply' one after the other somehow 🙈

It’s not impossible though. As col was suggesting

I think if you look at the guidance it's pretty clear , local is your town , village, city area where you live, not forgetting apart for specific reasons you're supposed to be staying at home, we are supposed to be in a lockdown. Our food shop is now a once every two weeks and a lot of shopping delivered. We don't always get what we ordered , but 'substitutes'. I'm not going hungry, and maybe you have to be honest with your mum and tell her there are maybe issues travelling outside local boundaries. I don't think for one minute the police if they stopped you 'going the long way round' to do your mums shopping are going to have an issue with it, I don't know. But I wouldn't.
Again the rules are trying to get people to do things locally, more important with a more virulent virus heading our way. The more people travel and gather in numbers, the greater the chance of the virus to spread.
Just because someone expresses different views to you, they are not necessarily judging. Debate is good

Really?!

Cases/Hospitalisations/Deaths seem to be plummeting thankfully.

Let's hope we don't get a spike after everyone did a big pile on at Stewart Park & Redcar beach this weekend
