Just drove past a packed Preston Park

Am I missing something ? Ive not left my home for a fortnight and did today to get my jab and there was a huge traffic jam around Preston Park . On eventually passing , it was packed in the car park and on the length of Yarm Road it was full of gangs of people ambling along with none with their masks on .

I’m certain we were told to carry on soldiering on only going out when we absolutely had to . A bit of sunshine and it’s “ ahhh won’t do any harm as we’re just about there “
If we were not allowed to go to the park the park would be shut.

I am attending a funeral next week by video link for a friend that travelled back across the world for cancer treatment and then got COVID in hospital and died in that Teesside hospital. He was separated from his wife, who had trouble getting a visa she did not finally see him until his final few hours.
The guy in question was an absolute stalwart of the music scene here for many years, the life and soul of gigs and lived for his garage, soul and alternative sounds.
Sheriff - show some respect will you please. There are 100 000 stories like this from the past 12 months.
How was he being disrespectful?

Unbelievable some of the ***** written on this thread. What on earth is wrong with going to the park or beach for a couple of hours to get some exercise and fresh air? Yes people all have the same idea but there is nothing else to do and people need to entertain their kids and even for their own sanity. I really am getting sick of the doom and gloom on here now, people are far to miserable. We’re on our way out of this now so cheer up a bit man. The return to normality isn’t far away ffs.

People are allowed to go to the park, beaches etc only for exercise and they should still be following the guidelines of social distancing, not travelling long distances and not meeting up with people except in their bubble.

Now you can argue about transmission rates outside etc etc but those are the rules

Leaving home

You must not leave, or be outside of your home except where necessary. You may leave the home to:

  • shop for basic necessities, for you or a vulnerable person
  • go to work, or provide voluntary or charitable services, if you cannot reasonably do so from home
  • exercise with your household (or support bubble) or one other person (in which case you should stay 2m apart). Exercise should be limited to once per day, and you should not travel outside your local area.
  • meet your support bubble or childcare bubble where necessary, but only if you are legally permitted to form one
  • seek medical assistance or avoid injury, illness or risk of harm (including domestic abuse)
  • attend education or childcare - for those eligible
If you do leave home for a permitted reason, you should always stay in your local area - unless it is necessary to go further, for example to go to work.

Staying in your local area means stay in the village, town, or part of the city where you live.

Have we not learned anything from the whole Bournemouth beach fiasco/VE Day last year, when everyone was expecting the worst with cases to rise and they just didn’t?

What a depressing read the first page is

visiting the beach or the park is allowed. None of you know how far people travelled to visit. Give it a bloody rest, god forbid people think about their mental well-being or having some time getting some vitamin d whilst operating within the law

I don't think anyone has an issue with people getting out for a walk or exercise in the park or the beach as long as they are sensible whilst there.

The problem is the there are so many that whilst there display such irresponsibility. I've witnessed huge families, grandparents, kids, grandkids, greatgrandkids, cousins all walking around the park together in huge groups. Then there's the sheer ignorance of other people with no attempt to social distance. If you see other people move away, control your kids as best you can to keep them away from people's personal space.

We've tried to visit parks early on a morning and then we leave when it starts to fill up with more people. If we go there later on in the day and it's too busy we go somewhere else as the risk is too great.

How on earth do you know people are with their cousins?

How on earth do you know people are with their cousins?

It's fairly obvious when you see siblings who look very alike each other, each with their own kids as that's kind of how a family tree works.

However, as if that wasn't enough of a giveaway when they and others are then saying loudly, "take that drink to your cousin.....pass your cousin's coat back....now then cuz did you get home alright last night" etc etc. It's even more of a giveaway.

Block if people are driving to a beach or to a park (evidenced by the sight of Preston Park car parks being rammed this weekend) then they are clearly not walking or exercising in their locality. That's all posters are saying. And you're right, a return to normality is not far off but the phased dates are in place for a reason. Everyone needs to be patient and think of the promising medium to long term and not be seduced by one sunny weekend in February 👍

It’s a strange world we live in. I can honestly say that in all my years I’ve never eavesdropped on cousin conversations in a park. Each to their own.
I walked me pooch this morning around what’s left of Sandy flats ( kader fc have turned it into something resembling a prison camp) and as you walk along kaders lovely fence behind the crem there was plenty of people about ( I now realise more than likely with their cousins although I didn’t hear much cuz going on) all in a very narrow space. Loads in the avenue of trees as well and when I threw the dog his ball and a stick it struck me as rather odd that I can’t go to the even bigger field on the other side of the beck with some balls and sticks and the only reason seems to be that it has 18 holes and some bunkers on it. I can’t even go with a cousin. Mental.

The most amusing things I find are people posting pictures of parks and beaches on social media... Whilst at the park or beach saying 'covidiots' 😂

I just popped out for a cheeky 5k run so I can loaf about watching football all afternoon as GF at work. I pretty much gave up and ran back via some back streets as the beach pathways were absolutely rammed. You'd think it was a bank holiday.

The majority large families. So not that fussed about 'protecting' themselves from harm. They moan about kids being at school but drag them out squeezing between other large families. I get they need exercise but I'd be slightly more concerned if I was a parent.

I'm not.... So what do I know. I guess it's an excuse to get out of the house and 'better' than people meeting up to p*ss up.

I think people being out and about doing exercise isn't the real issue. Plenty of worse things happing to spread it.

Yep. We've only got a paved back yard at my house. 10 metres by 2 metres.

"Go on kids do run some lengths of the yard, it's south facing so at least you'll be warm".

Kids are at the grandparents tonight ase and the missus are both at work. When I pick them up tomorrow I'll be taking them up the grassy hills of Great Ayton for our usual walk.
Parking at Newton under Roseberry is a joke yet again. Made the mistake of coming back home that way after picking the kids up. Police don't care as they've been told multiple times by multiple people.

We just went and parked round the backside of the route up to Roseberry Topping in our usual secret parking spot. 😉

Had this actually been clarified?

Plenty of cyclists out and about today for example. They all ain't riding round the block are they?

No it hasn't been clarified nor adhered to, see the PM and his bike ride for instance.

What are the chances of catching Covid whilst walking in the open air, almost zero?
